Playstation 3 80GB...
Not sure if its been mentioned, but some places ARE pre-ordering the Playstation 3 80GB with an apparent release date of Wednesday 27th August 2008 (Date taken from here: http://uk.playstation.com/games-medi...e-stage-at-E3/ )

Potential purchasers could always just swap out the standard hard drive and for £40 (or thereabouts) have a 250GB PS3.
It's a 2.5 inch notebook hard drive spinning at 5400 rpm is what's needed. Something similar to this:

Actually mate, its apparently a 60GB model (With backward compatability, flash card slots, etc) with an 80GB HDD for more storage. SO many people have complained that they want to play their PS2 games, etc so this is the option to have over the 40GB model.
I personally have not touched the HDD on my 60GB model, so the extra 20GB is useless to me. For anyone who has the 40GB and wants backward compatability then this is for them (Or new customers looking for a PS3)... So changing the hard drive will be useless to most people unless they plan spending £££'s on downloading games, demo's, video's, etc.

need to read up on this, as i want backwards compatibility really so have not bought a 40GB version.
that link suggests however that the 80GB is just a bigger version of the 40GB, not the 60 GB with backwards compatibility
but this article suggests that it will be similar to the US 80GB version that does have backwards compatibility

HMV staffer told us that, although he had been given no confirmed release date by the retailer, he expects the 80GB console will "very likely" hit the UK soon, especially considering the 40GB PS3's inability to play PS2 games. The 80GB model in the US does include the functionally to play PS2 games.

Bin your PS2 chaps !! I did and have not looked back, and I will change the hard drive on the PS3, already did it once to test it, it takes longer to change it then to install the playstation OS on it
