Default Aquired an old book, best way to preserve?

Ok so an old guy at the pub i know often brings me in random things, like for instance a lighter in the form of a sparkplug which is ace.

The other day we were talking about books and he said "i have a book at home you can have if you want it" not wanting to sound rude i said yeah sure why not i'll give it a read!..

He came back the next day and handed me the book and just said to me,"when you read it remember when it was written,i don't want it back so keep it"

Well here it is...

Looks old!

Opening page,i tried to get a picture of the date of publish but i only have my phone camera which wouldnt focus...anywho .. its 1845 so that makes it 163 years old...

The illustrations are fantastic!

I dont know how to try and keep it in a good condition, it's not brilliant at the moment but i don't want it to get any worse..

That bound to be worth money too...

ask a proper old book shop what they would do to keep it.

Old books like that, unless in perfect condition, are worth more as individual illustrations.

I fear you are right but, i'm not interested in the value.

Someone on another forum suggested using it to digitalise if via scanning and make it avaliable from the public..

Sounds like a plan to me.
