Gearbox question! Transfer case chain and 3.9 ratio gears
I am putting in the 3.9 ratio gears and chain in the transfer case of my MT75 box and am having a slight problem. The chain seems to be too long for the smaller gears - (it's the same size of the normal 3.6 chain). Does anyone know if I have the wrong chain (is a different one needed for the 3.9 gears?)? Or do I have to take links out (shorten it) - if so how many links and how?
I am also putting a 50 nm center diff in - I'm pretty sure mine was toast, since I could turn it by hand.
Here's a pic:

Hopefully you have a 24/26 toothcount.
There are apparently some oddball drop gear sets around with different numbers.
From memory it's 3 links, but it looks like 2˝. i.e. you'll have what looks like a male end and a female end to rejoin.
I'd advise to remove what I've said, and offer the chain up without joining, to ensure that I'm not "one" out

I am having trouble finding a correct pin to refit the chain together - does anyone out there know a size and kind of pin that would work? Hopefully something I could find local (in the Ohio).
Cheers

Howdy - had an ego boost when I showed up for the Merkur meet at the dragstrip couple of weeks ago
Now just fighting a stupid little pin that holds this chain together. . . but at least I'll have a new center diff installed - I could turn the old one with my fingers (probably not quite as strong as the 50mn one thats going in!

Cool! why not give Bernie(gearbox man) a call? he should be able to help you out.
There's also a dude in Seattle (John) who might be able to help you out, I'll get the info for you.

I think I've got it worked out - there are two pins per link that hold each other together. Hopefully I can get it all back together this weekend. . .
Then some late night "testing"
