Default FAO computer people

Was surfing the net last night when all of sudden the screen went wild. I switched it of and back on, but as soon as i did the following screen appears:

Then it goes into this where you log in etc. It does this in SAfe mode etc. It is not the screen as if you connect it to external moniter it is the same. Any ideas?

I was not even lookin at any dodgy sites lol.

If it is Kaput anyone recommend any good laptops on the market atm?

the graphics chip is fubar. quite common on cheaper HP laptops, they overheat and die just like this

after leaving it to cool and continualy rebootng it mught fix itself for a while, but once it starts, it's fucked.

9/10 you cant replace this, so it's new mainboard time is the laptop still under warranty? if it is ring HP repair center and get it fixed. if it isn't, look for a new laptop and sell this one for spares/repair

Jim this is a high spec laptop well four years ago it was, so compared to new ones now basic

The Lappy is 4 going on 5 years old. So suspect not worth repairing. Im gutted as loved the laptop been faultless really apart from one issues last year and it has taken some abuse.

i think it's an nx7010? or similar from the pic? the nx series were the poor quality ones, the nc's were the gooduns.

we've had it happen to nearly every single tc1100 tablet we've ever had, but they all had 3yr warranty so were fixed.

check out the mobo and see if the gpu is replaceable. iirc it's an ATi one on those laptops so look for a little chip that doesnt have intel stamped on it.

I specced my mum a laptop (and warleydaddy off here has one) an acer.

it had a 17" widescreen, wifi and loads ports for memory cards.
That was £400 delivered

It came with Vista, was fine after the upgrade to xp

Yep defo gfx chip overheated as JIm says. There are a few places that say they can fix these issues but Id just go for a new unit. Anything branded over 600 will be of decent build. HP Sony etc.

Doh never mind. On the hunt for a freaking laptop now! Dont want 17" screen as imo to big to be portable and easily chuck on lap.

I will check a few sites now, and even go in shops just to see them in "flesh" etc to.
