Default House advice.....

on a budget of say 100-130k, where do you lot think my best option to start looking for a house/2 bed flat would be? I currently rent in windsor, work in windsor, and would be able to commute say half an hour to 45 mins to work. So thinking somewhere on the M4 is the right move. But Windsor's prices are WAY out of my budget, and that goes for about a 5 mile radius from here aswell, so was thinking of branching out a bit but haven't a clue where to look!!

Any ideas of a nice place to start looking?

Anyone live close by and in the same position?

Yeah I am...

I'm living with my parents again at the moment in Newbury... but obviously want to get out!!

The opition I'm considering at the moment is self build. But I haven't really looked into it properly yet.

I don't have enough experience for self build, wouldn't know where to start! Have you looked into the part buy part rent thing?

Drop???? there sure hasn't been a drop around here....

Hi Aaron
As you know, we are in Ascot and that's expensive. Even Bracknell has gotten "up market" and I know that some 1 bed flats are selling for 175K.... that's steep....

But we have some friends who live along the M4, the other side of Reading. Bit in the middle of nowhere but the prices are much much much better..... Takes about 45mn to get there though.... never done it at peak time....

The only way to get a foot on the property ladder is to buy a NEW home from a home builder like wimpey, beazer etc etc. They always have the good prices as they do not price them selves out of the market as they cannot afford empty properties.
You will need to get in there quick, usually before any are built, but I guarentee you will make money out of your first home.
It will come fully carpetted, kitchen, bathroom etc and all you are left to buy is the furniture....if you want any.
We moved into our first house with a TV and that was it!!!!!

After out growing our first house after a few years we sold it making a profit of £40000.(Cost 60000 new) With this we moved onto a £147000 house down the road (older property).

Last year, after living there for only 18 months the house was £235000, then 6 months later £265000. At the moment we are have an extension, which when finished will put the price at around £350000!!!!!

That's the way I did it.

Please don't take this statement litterally muppet. I was mearly saying new houses are more sought after than older ones so less of a risk.
Sorry Malc the estate agent/ financier

Not true, you pay a premium for a new house and in a falling market thats not good!

Mate, I am playing devils advocate, these comments are made very light heartedly ( although they might be true )

Cheers MAlc

I would tend to agree with this, but best is to find a small builder who needs to sell one or two houses to fund the rest of his development project.

To be honest though as Mrs Frog said, that sort of money won't get you far in this area Aaron, unless you are prepared to live in the slums of slough and buy something that will need extensive renovation (which you need to be able to afford).
It may be worth thinking about moving further afield and travelling a little longer to work to get on the ladder.
