...my pals evo 4 has started to die in 5th gear only..........it looses power, the engine light comes on and then it goes onto 3 cylinders..........he thinks its the/a coil pack......what u think..????

cos thats when its at max boost and its prob blowing the spark out, had the same prob on a cosworth, for the sake of £30 its worth a try, if it was coil pack it would do it all the time

so at zero boost say cruising along in 5th at 40mph the car will start to missfire but drop it to 4th and it clears ?

 

drive it through the gears its fine untill u put it into 5th.........it looses power then the engine light comes on and it starts missing/3pots..............if u take it out off 5th before the engine light comes on it sorts itself out.......but once the light is on it will miss fire in all gears...............he's changed the coil and had 3 sets of plugs in

 

Import or UK car?

......after....but..........he's had nowt but shit luck with it of late.......went bang.......engine rebuild....oil pump fail...engine rebuild
........rear diff fucked.......gearbox fucked.....turbo fucked.........now this strange pallavour...............(should av bought a ford.....)

 

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the gearbox sensor and possibly a faulty or bodged de-limiter or something?

He hasn't changed the ecu as well has he?

 

....dont think so......but it's nothing to do with speed either............it's as soon as u put it into 5th.........could be a gearbox type problem..........he's gone from a 4 to a 7 box

without seeing it dude it could be a million things, what has the diagnostics said or have you not had it plugged in ?
