i'm not fussed about the iphone to be honest, but i did hear a colleague say that you can't actually forward text messages. anyone know if that's true? if so, it seems a bit of a basic feature to be missing!

 

You have to remember that the iphone is a platform, there is a "app" for pretty much everything! they are installed in a matter of minutes so i doesnt really matter what it can or cant do natively...............mine can deal with MMS, forwaring to muntiple people etc etc

 

forwarding texts and mms are available with 3rd part apps but you need to jail break the os. i hear this has yet to be sucessfully done on the 3g.
i have the 2g one and have to say i much prefer it to the n95 i had before. totally new ball game. nokia's rule the mobile phone market imo. the iphone however isnt a mobile phone imo its a nokia and much much more. some things are hard to get "into" at first but ive had nokia phones since 1997 that might just be me! once you get into the iphone its awesome.
the only thing that pisses me off is internet browsing speed when not on wifi. i presume the 3g is faster? i have mine on vodafone wap rather than edge - are these the same speed? im not to the level of geekyness that many associate with apple stuff so genuinely dont know the answers.

stu, a 2g 8gb for an n95+£50 is a bargain, snap it up mate. mine was essectively n95 + £130 last month. if you like gadgets and are bored with nokia like i was you should defo get an iphone.

 

Edge is basically 2.5G i have mine jailbroken on a 02 SIM but you can get Edge on Vodafone.................do you eveer get the blue "E" appear on the phone? if not you may need to put your EDGE settings manually

 

I'm on vodafone and i only get the blue box not an E and im sure i have my edge settings correct?!

How much difference does it make?

Lol, Thrush, all that shit and you still can't admit that most people buying them are doing so because of the hype and adverts. I'm not saying you are and i get your points (as i said) but don't get so defensive.

It's nothing to do with being cool to bash it a la Microsoft that's just the easy defence comeback, surely it's cool to want one if anything??? When people sing so loudly about something then i expect more than just a revamped touch screen. As i say different markets, different opinions, yours isn't gospel and neither is mine.

 

Yes I admit that a LOT of people want one because of the hype and marketing... But as for getting defensive - I'm not : I don't want one! Well I do, but not in it's current guise. It's just not enough for what I want... yet!

But it is getting a lot of stick it doesn't deserve and needs sticking up for.

And I do think it's cool to bash something that many people like, because people don't want to look like sheep. Popular stuff is as much loved as it is hated, and 9 times out of ten, the ones that claim to hate it are usually the ones trying to be different, trying to "not be a sheep", and either haven't tried whatever it is they are bashing, or secretly desire it but don't want to admit it....

 

Right, Ive always been into PDA's and the tweaking, plus owned an N95 for over 6 months. I took the deal and swapped my N95+2GB for an iPhone 2G and £50.

What do I think?

In a word: Awesome.

Its SOOO different to other devices, so smooth and just does what you want it to. The accelerometer is cool (Labyrinth anyone?) and although the N95 has one, its utter crap. I installed an accelerometer game for the N95 and it was either on or off, no inbetween. With labyrinth, it is like u are rolling a marble round in ur phone.

Have yet to use the camera, but not fussed about that.

The UI is just so slick, its awesome. Web browsing is unsurpassed on ANY device, its just brilliant.

For anyone contemplating getting one, well, DO IT!

The strange thing is, I have my phone on silent when at work, and its great to just get the iPhone out and check for messages/missed calls. I could play with it forever.

ordered it on monday morning ( first day of orders ) after numerous phonecalls/email still no idea when it will arrive!

more annoyingly they let people preorder/buy again on thurs/fri and most of those people have received them, and lots from monday who still havn't got theirs
would just cancel and get it from an apple store but they wont let you cancel because the order is still open and the phone is on backorder! what a shambles

I got my G3 iPhone on Thursday. Quite impressed with it so far

Sold my original updated, jailbroken and unlocked iPhone for £50 lol

My work automatically upgraded me the day they came out, from my Nokia. Got to say its been over a week now and I dont like it. Its great for internet and mails etc etc but as a phone and for messaging its lacking.

I cant forward messages on mine and all messages from the same person are put into the same conversation. So if you get a message you want to keep you cant as the next time you get one from that person it adds it below. and you cant delete one message, you have to delete the whole lot. I cant get mms either.

Internet is OK but I have a computer for that!

Plus I cant work out how to add my music to it. Not stuff you buy off itunes but stuff thats already on my pc.

The sycronising is bollocts too. I wanted to add some pics to it. You cant add one or two you have to add a folder. When I dont that it added the folder and wiped out what was already on there.

May just be me but I dont get along with it.

Must admit im having no problems at all with mine, we do have a mac in the house, but i never use that as i prefer to use my laptop and can find my away around it alot easlier.
The message thing your on about i prefer ( it saves it as an ichat convo ) because if you are getting a lot of texts it dont clog your inbox up with a thousand and one messages, you just look under the persons name and all texts are listed there, but i can understand what you mean about IF you wanted to save one. Again mms does'nt bother me neither does message forwarding as its not something i can remember doing in a long while, but im sure there will be a app to do this soon, i know you can get them for the old iphone.

As you say, the internet i find the bollocks . Im finding if i want to just look at something quickly i just use the iphone as i find it quick enough to do that.

I sync'd my iphone with my laptop ( pc ) and everything went perfect and i know shit about pc's really. Wth regards to putting music on just make sure the files are in itunes aswell. Didn't know that about putting photo's on, but again i cant see that being a problem if you just select the photo's you want and put them in there own folder.
