Euan will be on shortly to defend AVA to the death, so I assume he thinks that they are

Wallace Peformance I would trust personally, as I know Russ who works there and he just isnt the bullshit type at all.

Wouldn't have a problem with Wallace, been well respected for ages in the Vauxhall scene and never heard anything bad about them

Yeah - AVA seem to be good by all reports but VERY slow to do anything...just ask Andy R

Euans Saph is amazing too, they have done a really nice job with it.

Im pretty open minded when it cmes to rolling roads but I would defo not use JAP performance after a conversation I was involved in with the owner and I wouldnt use STAR after the carry on they had trying to run my elise( the blocked both air vents to engine comparment with tie strap then tried to force air in both sides of the rad.)

Extreme seem to get good reports altougth a few of their power figs seem suspect( colcos's 3 door on here got a FAR higher power reading than expected)

The thing I like about Alan and AVA is that he will never try to make excuses or tell lies about whats happening with your car and he can recreate true road condtions with ease so what you see is what you get on AVA rollers which IMO is a NOT always the case on many others.

Sounds good Euan, your car and Andy's S2 are testament to AVA's deft hand with Turbo specials - Are they any good with N/A engines ????

they dont do alot with NA engines as they kinda think they are a waste of time tuning them as you see very little gain for a massive outlay.

Dont get me wrong if you want to tune a NA car they can do it no worries but Alan will always try and sterr you towards a turbo charger.

Only had a power run at dastek but they seemed to know their stuff, rolling roads are only as good as the operator remember.

Not much point in turbo charging my old pinto motor......the tolerances are so big in it, the boost would just disapear into the abyss!!!!!

There will be plenty, clearly just not at AVA.

Best bet is to ask on Turbosport, 8/10 people on there have NA engines so someone is bound to know someone trustworty.

ava is who i would use if i had to go on rollers, how does he create true road conditions on rollers tho?

i.e does the fan come on when the car starts rolling and match the wheel speed etc etc?

(just a question so dont shoot me down).

I mean he can recreate the load seen on the road which most others seem to strugle with.

I have only used Star for a power run and had no problems with Jim , plus he is only 10 min along the road from me. I would say that ava have a far better cooling system.

Stoo -Star use to rent a unit off of Kev but then moved into a bigger unit in a new industrial estate about 4 years ago.

Ahhhh. I had my Type-R up there years ago for a rolling road day. Seemed a good enough company.

I just use AVA for any rolling road work I've needed though, as they're closest to me. They're ideal for a set-up but they just need more staff I think, engine builds and fabrication/ development work takes a while. Always good results though..!

Iain, why don't you ask agra etc who are closer to you and do tons of n/a builds who they would get to set it up in the car that is more local to you? Price of petrol etc might be worth giving it a shot.

Could do, I have just gotten my new JEM engine fitted, just need to iron out a few niggles, run it in and get it on the rollers

I have been in a similar car to mine with an Agra engine - It literally revved off the clock (not joking here). So was very impressive.

Wallace - Heard many bad things about them in the past but since Russ started, they've got a better rep. Evo boys up here use them fairly frequently with good results.

Japerformance (Aberdeenshire) - Wouldn't use them. Horror stories galore but may be OK for a power run.

AVA - Obviously good at what they do but always gave me the impression they were out to make a buck. Took my 1.9 RST down and they basically said it would need to Ł1500 spent on it. "We'll do it now if you want?". Answer was no, car was fine for months and I was Ł60 down for them just to tan it on the rollers!
Similar experience to Carlo by the sounds of it.

N/A Tuner - Ricky Gauld in Aberdeenshire used to be famed for his N/A Tuning. Heard he'd packed up recently though, but its never been confirmed.

Hope that helps.

Dont mention JEM if you go to AVA as they fucked my last engine and Alan had to fix it.

If you actually knew Alan the last thing he is out to do is make a quick buck

If he was he would fling cars out quicker and take on FAR easier jobs.

The twin throttle GT42 scooby, a twin turbo twin throttle triple wastegate scooby a compund charged T88 saf, a twin turbo V8 cobra. Do these sound like quick and easy ways to make money?

yeah out to make a quick buck

Once you get to know him you realise that he just like messing around with turbos

How did JEM fuck your engine Euan, thought AVA built/maintained it? - Who are JEM? Is this the guy down south that has done lots of nuts engines including the Greek drag cars and the 200mph toyota corrolla?

Which JEMS are you talking about doing your engine Iain?

I'm confused

Would have to agree with Euan on that whan you talk to alan he does just like messing with turbos, found that out when he was telling me about twin turboing his motorbike "just because he could and had bits lying around"
