Default Exhaust routing............

Now, With the V8 in the track car, there is a serious lack of space to get the exhaust down the normal route and it will be impossible to do without spending a small fortune on having manifolds made - IE, out of the headers and down the side of the bell housing.

So what I was thinking, and due to Rover being quite unwittingly clever in their design, is using the tubular headers I have from a 4.6 RR and mounting them on the opposite side (left on right and vice-cersa) so the downpipe comes off the front of the engine instead of the rear.

The drivers side exhaust would then take a right turn and run along the front crossmember and then up and back towards the rear of the car.

The passenger side exhaust would take a 110 degree sweeping bend and point towards the rear, with both pipes then running normally under the car.

Initial measurements and calculations look very good for this, and there is plenty of room where I want to run the "downpipes"

Any other issues other than the need to heat wrap and make a couple of heat sheilds doing it this way? (and perfect angles to avoid the pipes touching other stuff).

Any pictures of similar installations would be very helpful (even tho I have a good idea what to do)

That is the other option - or 8 pipes out the bonnet - fire breathing mad-max styleee with a soundtrack to die for

Seriously tho, I think that 2.5" clearance between the steering shaft and head has made me do this - poxy BMW

on the other note, it does give me an easy way to mount the lambda sensor by doing the exhaust this way

No need for any CATS in mine Nick - pre Sept 1992 engine (only just tho - feb 1992 )

Not long to go now with the car really.

Make exhaust
Fit new grooved discs and Ferrodo DS2500 pads (puting the Brembo's back on the E39 )
Fit Braided brake hoses
Fit polybushes
Fit battery to boot and run cable (an hour job at the most really).
Have propshaft modified
Make gearbox mount (another easy job)

the MS2 ECU is all wired up ready for testing etc etc - just need batterty power

Getting quite excited now really, which, considering last week I was on the verge of fucking it off as I got pissed off with it all
