Default I heard Rod had a big one

Late last week I finally caved in & said Mark could build me a Power engine & not a compromise road tiddler.

It shows my rather tiny GT40 against this new rather large thing its big & all pipes now dont fit, but the turbo does . It will make big Power & being of much Higher compression than before should love the 120ron fuel, this is my first engine built for Topspeed & its target is to beat its current record off the gas & on the gas it does what it does.
After 2.5 years of slumber Im back on the case of seing how fast these old battleships can be made to go.

Q.What are twin scroll or divided inlet turbine housings?

What are the benefits of using a twin scroll turbo?

A "twin scroll" or "divided inlet" means that there are two separate volutes within the turbine housing. The main reason for doing this is to isolate the pulses coming from each exhaust port and maintain more of the pulse energy from each cylinder all the way down to the turbine wheel. There are no differences between the turbine wheels used in open or single inlet turbines compared to those used in twin or divided inlet turbines. Generally speaking, a divided inlet turbine setup will respond faster and produce boost quicker than single or open design of the same nozzle area, of course this is dependent upon proper execution.

The simple fact that a divided housing is used does not guarantee these results. While it does not cause any problems or harm to run a divided inlet turbine housing on a manifold that is an "open" design, none of the benefits of the twin inlet will be seen.

Benni.

It divides the exhaust housing into two sections, which when packaged on the right manifold means that the cylinders effectively have their own path through the housing to the wheel.
Basic principle is that it means the pulses can be kept a bit sharper up to the point they hit the wheel rather than the gas speed dropping in the housing.

Ive not got any personal experience of using them, but apparently it works quite well.

I have some experience of a the smallest GT42 on a 2.5 litre engine and its no where near a T4.

If Rods turbo is bigger(??) and its on a smaller engine(2.1?) it cant be any better.

Was yours a twinscroll on a properly constructed manifold?

If not, its particuarly irrelevant TBH!

Its a twin scroll with a ceramic coated turbine on a pulse seperated manifold runing on a car with variable valve timing controlled by the map so Its got everything you can possibly do to reduce lag/improve response and its still WAY behind a normal T4.

So it is relevant TBH!

Surprised to hear that then, although having all the "right bits" still doesnt mean it was done right.

Im saying it should spool not far off how a T4 on an old YB spooled as it left ford on the rs500, I specifically said "old t4" as I realise that you could apply similar technology to a newer one to see it spooling sooner, also you seem to be forgetting rods is a 2.2 not a 2.0.

There are LOTS of other factors comparing rods engine with an old t4 engine, NOT just the turbo like you seem to be doing?

And YES a well done modern GT35R engine will indeed spool similarly to an old T34 one did from ford, thats EXACTLY what im saying.

you need a longer ladder to get out of the hole you dug it is a deep one lol
a standard rs500 had restrictors in the front pipe to stop boost climb they also increased lag
