Jay Z isn't exactly the best representive of Hip Hop/Rap and Oasis aren't the best representives of 'Rock' in my opinion...

Far preferred The Verve tbh. Jay Z was ok, started shit but got better and did a better job than I thought but nothing special imo.

The basic cryteria for Glastonbury is that it should be live music and all artists no matter what type of music is being made should not be allowed sampled and prerecorded beats.. its should all be 100% raw and live

How anyone can say Jay Z is "Mainstream" ill never know! A LOT of the other artists performing there have probably had loads more airplay on radio one in the past year or so! and you dont hear people complaining that they are "Mainstream"

Yes he is one of the best known hip hop stars but a lot of that is to do with how long he has been going and how successful he is. Also stuff like Beyonce being his wife etc.

Thats is why Jay Z had a live band with him......

I THINK it was the same band he used when he did "Unplugged" for MTV

I doubt many bands have or COULD to an "Unplugged" session...........Only PROPER artists

They are moving with the times

If Kasabian headlined creamfields with a dance style set then thats fucking cool......just as Jay Z headlined WITH A LIVE BAND, LIVE GUITARS, LIVE DRUMS

I find it funny that a few years ago when Cypress Hill were at Glastonbury nothing was said........Yes they didnt headline but there was still a RAP/HipHop group there

Looks like HipHop could be taking over...........or maybe the "Real" bands are a little thin on the ground

watched it the other day and i was impressed the performance and im not into hiphop, i understand why people are pissed off though as most people go to events like that to see bands and not people like jayz, but even they must admit he was pretty amazing!!

i wont listen to specific genre of music as i think you miss out on so much, so i listen to any old shite these days

maybe we will see kings of leon at the MOBO awards in the future?

Thought Jay Z was shocking to be honest. Suprised he didn't get booed off when he was covering Wonderwall in the sarky way he did.

There are so many good bands out at the moment as well which could have headlined.

How many songs can be written about the hood?

Everyone ive spoke to who went (unfortunatley i know stinking student hippy twats too) said he was the star of the show and got the biggest cheers etc of anyone.

Well, watch any of the coverage and thats pretty obvious, everyone is going mental when hes on.

None of his "fans" wouldve went, all the people who went were all the guitar stumming bummers who slagged him off.

But they were all wanking off over the performance since.

Ive heard it, and i expect it was good there, but like most live performances I dont think its that good to listen to if your not there.

And no, im not a big Jay-Z fan, I just live in reality.

How is an international mega star gonna get booed off for covering/taking the piss out of a little known (in comparrison) bands tune??

and as for your how many songs can be written about the hood comment then u havent watched the performance. Jay Z rapped about alot more than pimps n hoes mate. Thats why he is an international brand.

as for the two angry brothers from manchester, i dont think jay z has even given them a second thought.

International Mega Star? Most people hadn't heard of him until he shacked up with Beyonce.

Oasis - Small band?

In Glastonbury who do you think is the most popular?

Every single performer at Glastonbury has had a HUGE increase in record sales (including Oasis who's song was covered) since the festival except Jay Z. Cracking performance - yeah it must have been.

Mark,
A couple of points....

1)It may of only been stated a sellout because the promoters have much more to lose in future years if they stated it wasn't. Take that official statement made with a pinch of salt.

2)Jay Z performs with a live band because of accustics. Something that is even more appreciated when watching something like that live.

The fact is, Hip Hop is no longer underground and has been main stream for a number of years. Along with RnB, it still has a few years left in it (you can approximate a typical 10yr cycle of music types, before the next thing comes along commercially). Personally I am surprised it has taken this long to get to Glastonbury.

My own view is the music is good, but what it stands for (as regards to parts of the demographic following it) and the culture around it stinks. Know what I mean innit!!

Quite funny that

Anyone that was even slighty into music will know who JAY-Z is...arguably the biggest most famous hip hop artist in the world.

You obviously have no comprehension to how big Oasis is then. Put it this way, your huge Jay Z and Oasis have sold the same amount of albumns, both slinging out 50 million to date. Now, either Jay Z is little known, or Oasis are mega big..... the choice is yours!

yes where did u get those figures mate.
I said Oasis are small in comparrison and i still stand by that statement. Jay Z is far better known the world over. Only place i would say he isnt as well known as Oasis is the UK.

I also have no doubt that if Oasis were playing Glastonbury then yes, of course they would be more popular. Glastonbury has traditionally played their style of music but obv times are changing.
Its like playing the two on Hot 97 and asking who would be more popular. No brainer really.

The best selling artist list im looking at has Oasis selling 50-75 million records. Jay Z isnt anywhere in that catagory or any other i can see.

Lee,
Oasis is from the Guiness WR for last years edition..... or so I am led to believe. Jay Z's albumn sales were announced on the Johnny Ross show on Friday night. As far as I was aware, they had both sold the same.

Quick Reply: Jay Z at glastonbury............AWESOME
