Thats exactly my point mate, dont know the road in question but your obviously riding your bike closer to the limit than the new gixer or rr, and fair play as thats the only way an old kx would be able to stay in front. Like i said, if you have equal riding ability (both riding on or near the limits of the bike) the sportsbike will win 99% of the time of course, i dont think anyones doubting that, so i dont know if the 'smart arse' comment is aimed at me?

Packman: we're agreeing so.....?

I really don't see why people find it so hard to believe that a supermoto can keep up with a sportsbike, have these people proper experience in the matter themselves?

Yes a sportsbike is more powerfull and will be better on long straights or long winding corners but a SM will be at an advantage on the short twisty stuff and it's abillity to brake much later and hammer out of corners like you would not believe...

Go and search youtube for examples, I'm sure you'll find some.

In the meanwhile, I'll go and ride rings around sportsbikes, ta very much.

And another nice one:

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej9MkCSg59w

Check out the midcorner wheely at around 3 minutes

Don't forget: this is a 450...a lot less power compared to for example a Husaberg 650

that wheelie is cool

that narrow, twisty road clearly gives the bike the advantage though, and the subaru is hardly going for it.

It's not like the scoob is pootling around though and don't forget it has 4 wd and 4 wheels to put the power down and brake with!

the scoob is pootling round. there are only a couple of corners there where it is wide enough to really use it.

i'm not saying the supermoto is not fast, i'd love one. but to say that it is faster than a rally car based on that is a joke. get the 2 of them around silverstone for example, and i think it would be a vastly different story. but who cares? it's all good fun

Steph you knob, they drive on the left like the UK in Malta .

I'd like to see someone "backing in" to a corner on a superbike like you can with a Supermoto . There is no way they can carry the same corner speed on a tight twisty road or circuit .

LOL I'm not saying that a SM is as fast as a rallycar!

Mike: I said it LOOKS like Malta you cock...I have a staying permit of the island so I think I should know they drive on the wrong side of the road lol

And what is it with these people eh Mike? For some reason they don't understand the different dynamics between SM and SS bikes...I'd like to see you change your line mid-corner on a SS without getting into trouble!

They've obviously never ridden a 'crosser in their life and therefore have SB blinkers on .

I can remember out-braking and riding around the outside of my mate on his RG250 Gamma on my TS125X . The look of shock on his face was a picture . Mind you, he soon fucked off past me on the straight - 21bhp and 87mph flat out is never going to beat 37bhp and 115mph .

Exactly! A crosser/SM is also very forgiving when compared to a SS!
Much easier to ride fast when you adapt to the ridingstyle!

Very true, and thats my point mate, its not actually the bike thats 'faster' or 'quicker' or whatever you want to call it, its how the rider uses the bike to its potential that counts, which is why someone on a supermoto can come out on top sometimes over sportsbikes, as many many sportsbike riders are no where near the limits of the bike on the road, whereas its easier to get a supermoto to its limits. I admit, my gixer 750 doesnt get close to its true potential on the road, as that would just be ridiculous and nigh on impossible on most roads anyway. A supermoto can handle its limits much easier on the road and look good whilst doing it in front of sportsbikes that are using say 50-75% of its potential.

Oh and i know exactly what your talking about mate when you mention the very tight corners with little/no straights, and the characteristics of a supermoto and motorcross bikes as i used to race competitively in motocross for years. Thinking about starting up again actually.

Don't know if you get to choose but if you do:

250 4-stroke is much easier to ride than 125 2-stroke

but a 250 2-stroke is much more fun than a 250 4-stroke lol

Enjoy!

Some awesome powerslides here.......takes some big balls and plenty of skill to do these on a sports/super/gp bike.
