Default weird cossie clutch problem.......

right fitted 4th clutch in 2 weeks and still got the problem it developed after the 1st nackered clutch was replaced.

when car comes on boost you can feel the pedal go slack but still works, and sometimes (mainly from 1st to 2nd when revving hard) the pedal stays on the floor till revs drop then bangs back up, been trying launch techniques as croft is this weekend and not going too well now.

anyone had this problem?
new AP 4 paddle, alcon cover very heavy duty, new spigot+release bearings, new cable 3 month ago, replaced a cracked pedal box and checked for worn ratchet n pawl.

also every so oftern i can hear the ratchet adjusting when town driving slow and stop/start.

its a weird fault!!!

anyone had the misfortune of this? doing my head and pockets in!

it may sound like a strange answer but you could have a knackered engine mount and the cable routed wrong and the engine could be pulling on the cable under load etc ???.........it's the only thing that i can think of as eveything else has been changed and i could be totally and utterly wrong !!!

Mine does EXCATLEY the same !

You pedal drops like the clutch is disengaged & then all of a sudden BANG comes back up again !

I have an AP 6 paddel drive plate & cover, very heavy duty off Mr Mikey Rainbird.

I've tried......

4 different cables..

Old 2wd cable
Old 4wd cable
New 4wd cable
New 2wd cable

Even tried the old trick of using a bit of copper tube to shorten the cable as I thought the pawl was fallin off the end of the rachet, gettin stuck & when you pulled the pedal up a smidge it would BANG back into place.

Tried about 5 or 6 different rachets/pawls.

Different routing of cables

2 release bearings

2 clutch forks

2 different types of pivot for the clutch fork incase it was gettin jammed up

2 clutch pedals.

It only happens at high revs, I've got vibratechnic's engine mounts.

This has only happened since I fitted this clutch, on the twin plate it was fine !

I do know tho, I my gearbox mounth is dead so was my next port of call.

The thing thats improved it the most tho is a manually adjustable clutch pedal that Ronnie gave me the lead on & Lee (CossieCan) had from his old Saph.

Since fitting the manual pedal, it's happened maybe 3 times in about 2 months (fingers crossed no more) & has snapped a rachet in half. Apart from that it's fine & I use the car everyday !

I think this might be half the causes of my broken diff's tho, cos your changin hard, the pedal gets stuck then all of a sudden BANG, full drive again & full power through everything, somethings gotta give & when your in 3rd or 4th gear wheel spin is less likely so the strain goes on the next weakest part ! The crown wheel & pinion !

Jus so you know tho, the only 3 things I haven't changed is.....

Clutch assembly itself but at like almost 400 quid & lots of meat left fuck that !

The actual pedal box, but appears absolutely fine.

The gearbox mount which I will do once me got some pennies !

Hope some of this helps !

Good luck

jb

i have a similar prob with mine under hard starts or quick changes the clutch slips until you pull the pedal up and you hear a click then everything goes back to normal, checked the pedal box and fitted new rachet and cable but it still does it,and the clutch was only changed about 4months ago. seems to be a bit of a common prob

4wd and 2wd clutches are different, and the flywheels are different. It might be over-centering due to this (4wd flywheel is thicker IIRC) and causing a geometric lock, causing the peddle to stay down as the release bearing is pulled into the clutch fingers?

I was under the impression the actual clutch assemblies were the same 2wd & 4wd ? ? ? Only the release bearings differ ?!?!

It's got a 2wd flyqwheel which was re-faced prior to the clutch bein fitted.

I'm also on my 2nd gearbox & the fault was with the first also (which reminds me I gotta contact Diva ! )

Sean, thank you VERY much mate ! I love it & don't worry a few more "decent" vids comin real soon

Lovin your car tho, think it looks spot on ! and by the looks of that bay, it's gonna go jus as well !

jb

P.s. If you want a cheap, easy 90% fix get your pedal manually adjusted ! Cured as I said 90% of my probs ! (big thanks to Twins, Ronnie & Lee for helpin here as they could see my frustration wit the poxy thing ! )
