Ebuyer or DABs. Both on line.
Which ever laptop you buy also search for a "Carepack" ie guarantee which suits you.

You can browse by what features you want

pcworld nowadays is actually quite good, and also quite competitive. A laptop from there is going to be exactly the same as one bought online if you go for the same model! But personally, I would recommend a Dell direct from their website

I've got a Dell thats been bullet proof (slight exageration but you know what I mean ), but you'll need to wipe most of the pre loaded rubbish off it.
After previous experiences with PC World, Currys, etc I wont even walk through their doors. There customer services is just non starter

i had a bit of a reslut form pc world yesterday

the story goes a little something like this

i can't get the ps3 to work with the wireless connection, it finds it, but then i can't do anythign else with it, so i've decided to hard wire it in
but i need a 10 metre cable as the 5 metre ones' i've got aren't long enough
so off i trot to pc world thinking that it's going to cost me a few quid to get s connecter and job jobbed
then i see the prices of their 10 metre cables, Ł40
so i have a word and, it just so happens that the guy i speak to is their business bloke and tells me that if my company has an account we can do it for a fraction of the price
so i get intrested and, lo and behold, we do have an account there and the price of what i want to buy is Ł2.03p, rather than Ł40
the only downside is that i need to have it delivered, which is going to cost me a tenner, but happy days
then it takes an hour for soemone else to figure out what to do, he was probably new there as he'd fuck up the order, i'd tell him what do to and then he fuck it up some more, then he'd call his boss over, who'd do exactly what i told him to do in the first palce, etc, etc
this took an hour to set up, but i got 40 metres of cable for Ł26, enough to do the whole house

There is no such thing as a good laptop that runs VISTA

Maybe the alienware ones might suffice (Ł2k) , but in general, stick with XP for laptops...

Dell are cheap but they are cheap for a reason. The hardware is ok but the actual case is shite imho.

PCWorld do do some good deals. My mate got a proper nice Compaq for around 400, runs vista and is sweet as. Only reason people that say vista is shite is if they dont have a good spec for it.

CHEAP DELLS are NOT good. they are amongst the WORSE built machines you can buy, expect it to last a few years tops before it breaks

HIGH END DELLs on the other hand are good

there's a reason why yuo can take 2 laptops with the same spec but one costs twice as much as the other... there's more to PCs that justa spec sheet.

ps the "if its more expensive it's better" rule isnt always true, just look at Vaios

gone are the days where mac do anyting better than a PC, they even use the same (if LOWER specced) hardware nowadays.

it's justa different OS/UI really.

all the decent applications that used to make macs stand out (the adobe range etc.) are available on windows and do EXACTLY the same thing.

buying a mac nowadays merely shows you are susceptible to marketing and hype

could not agree more!!!! wouldn't touch a vaio in a million years. you might be lucky and it doesn't break, but when it does, fuck that! wouldn't touch toshiba these days either. they used to be brilliant but we stopped buying them in for work because they became so shoddy and unreliable.

i'd say go with Dell though.. mid range ones are well priced and pretty good imo.
dunno what the new really cheap ones they've brought out are like.. i think westy bought one so best ask him.

i'm sure apple are great for somethings but personally have no experience of them and therefore wouldn't buy one.

P.S. - as far as vista goes, it runs fine on my work dell (latitude 820) and it's not a huge spec machine. as for alienware... ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ we bought some of those in and by the time the options we wanted had been added they came to abotu 4k. not to mention they weighed about half a ton!

I agree that the programme usage between the two these days are very close, but there is a reason that Macs are still the computer of perference when it comes to, for example, intense graphic design, or music based purposes (such as recording, pro tools, studio work etc) The OS is far more stable, the system as a whole is far more stable and less tempramental than PC's are, and they rarely crash or refuse to work like Windows machines do

And I wouldn't buy one for the marketing or hype, I'd buy one as I find them a pleasure the use. It's all very intuative, whilst being somewhat different, and totally geared up to just being a tool that works for what you want it to do, rather than often finding that what you are trying to execute on a PC becomes more of a chore

PLus whats funny is todays Intel based MacBooks and iMacs can all run Windows in bootcamp or parallel, and the kick in the guts is that Windows running on a Mac is better than Windows running on a PC - it's what Windows always wanted to be, but never quite achieved

Plus you can't "smackbook" a Windows PC/laptop - and that is reason enough to get a MacBook - hella trick

Im not wrong , ive worked with vista since before the day it came out as my company gets advanced copies of all microsoft products. I have never had a problem with vistas performance or any other aspect except for user accounts being locked down which is overcome easily. As long as your pc is up to spec it is fine and stable.

Saying that though there is nothing at all wrong with XP and i still rate it and would happily use it as vista doesnt offer any realy advantage over it other than looking prettier.

Jim - I don't see any other laptops being able to run it

Either way, to me, a Mac is a bit of a toy. I don't actually need one... I have a PC which is the work horse, a MacBook would just be like having a weekend car - something just to play with and mess around on - hence why I can't justify spending the money they cost on one....

But I can see how much better in some applications they are than PC.... Plus, you try having the Mac Vs PC argument with Fastmaul, see how well you come off there
