Default Could a McLaren F1 reach 200mph

down Brunters according to Datron only this Ultima that holds the world 0-100-0 record has achieved this amongst Production cars :

Director of Ultima Sports Ltd, Richard Marlow, who was the driver of the car during the record runs, said “To put the figures into perspective this 640bhp Ultima GTR is the fastest road legal car Datron Technology have ever timed by a huge amount and they have tested some of the most exotic supercars on the planet. No car not even the McLaren F1 that Datron have tested could accelerate sufficiently well to actually even achieve 200mph on the relatively short Bruntingthorpe 1.8 mile runway from a standing start but the Ultima GTR managed it with ease and had plenty left in reserve.
It reached 204mph.

Yes, I am sure it HAS done it as well! it has the power, the traction and more importantly it has the Aerodynamics. Think Richard Marlow may be having a selective memory moment to help sell his car. Or maybe it wasn't datron who timed the Macca at over 200mph?

Think the XJ220 has hit 200mph at Brunters as well.

Yes, that was when they tried to do 220. and failed. BUT I think all the cars went to Brunters for a 200mph run and a shakedown before being delivered. I may be wrong

The 0-60 times etc for the macca were set at milbrook proving ground in 1994. Only Autocar magazine have ever timed the car. The car was run at Bruntingthorpe for the magazine feature and reached 211 mph. No accelaration figures were taken cos brunters surface is in poor condition. The macca was later run in germany somwhere and reached 240 mph, with only the rev limit raised from standard. Goin from memory the XJ220 was also figured at milbrook by Autocar in 1993 for another exclusive test. Dont think the XJ220 was at brunters that time, but was driven by Martin Brundle in 1992 round Nardo and reached 217 mph, although the cats were removed and a straight through exhaust fitted for this.

I love the Jag XJ220 as well, TWR version would definately top 220mph (assuming the gearing was there) as Tom Walkinshaw's company took the remaining unsold XJ220's and removed a load of wieght from them to make them quicker!

I dont know why the press slated them that bad, people said they were too big, i sat in one as a kid and didn't think it was too big Lovely car!

The engine is actually the same V6 engine as developed for the might group B rally car the 6R4 Metro, but turbo'ed (like the metro should have been!)

Just totally moving this thread off subject

was too wide for Londons width restrictions for a start... and also what Gareth said. Was supposed to be a 4wd V12... not a Metro engined RWD

Has anyone seen the vid of the Mclaren F1 doing 246mph?? i think it was on VW's test track. Not sure over what distance that was?? Or how much of the distance it took to crack the 200mph mark......
