I don't believe quaiffe quote a limit for the box, it's one of our only big power boxes, but I think 700bhp would break it. The only problem is, noone has a 700bhp Gtir to test it on, 500+ is the current most.
Where did you see this?

its a guy over here in ireland whos posted up that at irelands drag warz next year he has a suprise for me, so naturally i asked him what his suprise was...........a gearbox able to hold 700bhp and that quailfe told him it was unreakable,
ive got a 537 bhp escort cos with a major upgrade to around 650 over the winter, in fact im dropping it at pj motorsport next friday for the winter rebuild, is the highest gtir 500bhp????, cos i doubt it if this guys gtir is even near this, he hasnt taken part in any of the irish drags this year but continually has his speech on the irish forums stating this and that

I don't know of any GTi-R's over 500bhp. It's not really bhp that breaks gearboxes though is it.

hi guys and jams, your theory on bhp is true, its torque that busts up most things but with handy bhp on gtir's, the torque cant be huge either can it with them still having 2 litre???????????,

@ escort cos, thanks ate , i just dont want to end up like a muppet at the next new years drag warz

We don't know the exact power as noone (in this country) has had them on the rolling roads. Jason Gant (DP prepared) has done an 11.09s 1/4 so he will have around 500bhp(ish) but his car is stripped out. One has done an 11.9 with 350bhp, but we haven't realy had any proof of 500bhp+ so they're educated guesses. The 2 known 500+ are in Austrailia and Holland.

An identical spec to Jasons should be going on the rolers in November, I'll let you know what it gets if he turns up.

What times has your escort done?

@ fast guy, mine did a 11.54 in ireland this year, the timing and all that was supposed to be spot on, there was a r34 skyline there which was an ex abbey car, well fast and nice car too, he did an 12.09 i think, it was definetly 12+ and he had done similar times the year previous (which i hadnt competed in, car not ready), then in mondello this year the track was only 300 metres and it did an 9.26, so i dont know how that would pan out on a real qtr, but to be honest the car ran shit in mondello, so im hoping pj will make it a killer again for me, in fact i know he will, hes a top bloke ,

hi jamz, the forum is called racershaven.com, its under a thread called "fao the whitewarriors"........its a local irish type site, all tyos of cars on it with a varrying range of users and topics, they kind of hi jacked me after limericjk after i won that event outright with the 11.54sec qtr so i put a few stickers on then to help em out,

Quaife also claim their box is only good for 350bhp anyway (though they seem ok with much more than that) unless he's talking about the 6 speed sequential they do

No he just lives on the gtiroc forum

At least the white warrior learned alittle while doing the rounds on our forum as he got the price pretty much right for the quaife gearset but thats the normal 350bhp rated one (the 6 speed is Ł16k ) and that price is just the gears your looking at around Ł3k built up into a box

lol @abdr500

@GINGA, thanks for the post on racershaven, the price on the box is bang on, i was qouted 12 to 14k for a seq for my cossie, im going r+d instead and hopefully upgrade next year or year after, im trying to run my esc on as best a budget as i can and still look after my family as any guy should, but thn you get muck fired at you for a bad run or something else and then they come on talking bout ridicoulous figures and huge gearboxes etc, then they dont show up for the drags and sit in the stands and 2 days later stupid posts are on every site to kingdom come

No probs the gtir has a bad enough reputation as it is which is mostly not true and just pub talk and not helped by the likes of white warrior making up more bullshit stating this and that with no proof to back his claims up
