Default Bedding Brakes in..

Folks, hope it's not a dumb question, but as you know Max has had brand new AP`s fitted to the saff and only done 20 odd miles on them for it's MOT, he's trailering the car down tomorrow, my question is!!

What's the bedding in process for these??

Pete..

Yep, keep standing on them, just off bringing in abs, and don't come to a complete stop.
Get it done and out the way.

Or follow the link
Pretty similar, main thing is to jump on them a few times, and not come to a stop with foot on brakes really.

i'd do it like this personally ;

AP Racing recommend the following procedure :
  • If ducts are fitted they should be ž blanked off.
  • Use previously bedded pads.
  • For a minimum of 15 Km use brakes gently at first from initially low speeds - progressively raise speed to normal racing speed but still using gentle applications.
  • For the final 2 or 3 applications brakes can be used quite heavily.
  • If AP Racing thermal paints are used then only the Green paint (430°C) should have fully turned to white and maybe also just the Orange paint (560°C) on the outside edges of the discs during the bedding procedure.
* AP Racing offer a pre-bedding service at nominal extra charge. This ensures that discs are bedded consistently assuring better performance & life. Please contact AP Racing for details.

This for pads...;

Race Friction Materials:
AP Racing offer a large variety of the best friction materials currently available from various sources to suit every racing condition. It is therefore very difficult to recommend a common ‘Bedding in’ procedures suitable for all friction materials. Please refer to the manufacturers own ‘Bedding’ information for guidance.
◘ Road Friction Materials
For Pads for AP Racing brake calipers or kits use the following procedure:- Bed the pad and disc contact areas by using moderate brake applications for 80Km (50 miles), avoiding excessive speeds, building the stopping power and vehicle speed gradually over the next 80Km (50 miles). This will ensure maximum pad performance and disc life.

isn't the internet AMAZING!!!!!

I searched for...have a guess....AP Racing, then searched their site for bedding instructions....who'd have thunk it!!!

Basically sounds like you need a set of old pads to start with, then once you've followed the disc running in procedure then change pads and bed new pads in....you might need to do a couple of hundred miles this weekend!!

they need to be heated and cooled properly when new, i also think having the wrong pads in from the start doesn't help either.

Yeah, you don't have to worry about 'warping' them, as they're much better quality, obviously.

i was told this

All pads should be bedded in with a series of gradually increasing speed stops on a quiet road from

30 - 10
40 - 10
50 - 10
60 - 10
70 - 10

Its important you do not to come to a complete stop, by the time you get to the 50 or 60 one you will have gasses venting from the pads - this is normal.

Once complete drive around to let the disc and pad cool naturally then that should be it.

What pads have you got mate? Martin gave me track instructions with my set and they suggest a few gentle braking sessions on the track straights and build them up speed wise if I recall correctly. I'll check if you want?

that is, almost to the button, what martin said to me too

he said do the braking in one day, as in drive about doing the stops, then carry on as normal for 10-15 minutes, then go up another elvel, etc, etc
then park the car up overnight and when you get it they should be as good as

i have noticed that a few applications brings them right up to temprature and then it's just a gentle prod to bring our eyeballs into close proximity to the windscreen
