Default Any window fitters - security question

We have a fire escape window in new house, which is Finleys bedroom, its not an option to have him in a different room, BUT

parents have lost the window lock key, is there any sort of restrictor we can use on the window to stop it being opened far enough for a small child to fall out but still able to use it as the fire escape if there ever was an emergency

Found some window restrictors but dont really know which sort we need, or if they are suitable for a fire escape as it doesnt say

Its an outward opening window with a normal outward opening top section, there are 2 catches, 1 each side which you press in and turn in towards the window if that makes sense

Dont have time to get a window fitter to get new keys, but we will need something doing ASAP

will this be any good? is it a case of simply pushing the bracket up over to open the window, as i think that might be ok for Finley

If it's a casement type window you can get a cheap 3 stage restrictor fitted. It's like a 5" long x 1/2 inch dia' hinged bar which has 3 notches which fit into a small notched plate fixed to frame restricting the opening to 1", 2" or 3"..

i have no idea, its an UPVC window that has a frame

what is a casement type window

saw some brackets with notches but they look quite simple to open which would worry me slightly with a very adventurous child he would probably figure it out

Casement is a window which opens outwards the conventional way, and these restrictors are pretty childproof and fit UPVC no probs'

Will try and get you a pic

Just had a quick look on the net and couldn't find 'em.....

Lots of hook type ones which you should get from B&Q etc, if not try your local Double Glazing firm
