I thought you meant they were going to tax people who rape someone, thought it was another of these "stealth tax" things labour are so good at.

Good idea Chip, only 5% result in convictions, so plenty of money to be had.

the big hike comes in 2009, and another slight one in 2010, so anyone whose had tax renewals this year is irrelevant.

i think its still undecided if cars between 2001-2006 get the new tax bands isnt it?

I've seen quite a few luxury cars suddenly spring up for sale locally.
Owning anything built after 2001 seems to suddenly be a very bad move.

Still, all the cossie/RST/etc.. owners must be laughing their bottoms off.
Mega performance machines with plenty of pollution - and no financial penalty.

The new laws apply to all cars registered after march 1st 2001, the new prices dont come into play untill april 09, for a focus rs after that it will be £300 a year untill march 2010 when it will rise to £430 a year, all of that according to the parkers guide tax calculator.

like i said before, current tax prices (this year) arent to worry about. the new tax bands come in, in april of 2009. so looking on the DVLA site is irrelevant

this is when all the post 2001 cars will get hit hard (apart from low emissions cars).

there is a chance that cars between 2001-2006 wont be hit as hard as post 2006 cars.

its been all over the motoring press, i'm surprised how few people know this.

that parkers tax-calculator thing has changed its tax prices on alot of cars a few times since it was launched a few months ago, so i wouldnt give much credibility to it TBH.

government still aint decided on 2001-2006 cars according to this:

unlucky mate. its a shame ford didnt make the emissions better on the v6, given that they didnt ring much power out of it (apart from the st220 version)

i'm just hoping the pre-2001 motors stay safe.

some unlucky soul over on the meg forums has got a st200 registered in the first week of april 2001, so he JUST missed being on the pre-march 2001 thing

I agree with you bud, its the govt that set the prices, so they should be correct. i phoned DVLA about my car, asked them about the new pricing, gave them my reg, and they said mine is going to be £400+ from next year, which is what the parkers guide says, but it was a couple of months ago when i phoned, and they did say that wasn't set in stone as they hadn't had confirmation from the govt.

Ah right.
Maybe first step in the backing down of it all then.
If govt site isn't correct and upto date that's a bit sad!
