Default the reality of life kicking in......RESULT!!

....the real world.

It has been a while since leaving uni and graduating in january anyway, work is goin alright and to cut a long story short i went for an eye test and was told to actually wear my glasses and not to leave em to the side like i have been doing, i was also advised i need new glasses/lenses

so after the eye test i was told to bend over and give them 300 quid for my pair!

my brother told me thats normal and resonable. fair plays as u dont buy glasses every day!

just thought id share that with you all

That is a pretty normal amount!

If you don't like it, eat plenty of carrots, at least you'll be able to see in the dark

you have been ripped mate

http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk

go to the high street for the prescription and order from there

I have bought blank oakleys off ebay (Ł45) and sent them away to companies like glasses direct to have them fitted with prescription lenses and sunglass coating for Ł25

thats how to do it!

have a gander on ebay for blank oakleys

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-OAKLEY-WIR...QQcmdZViewItem

it costs Ł15 for standard prescription lenses and Ł10 for a coating AR/tint form a place i found online

find a pair of glasses that suit then check the lens/bridge/temple measurement

went in to the store, made a fuss and they wernt having it but i persisted and they gave in...

they refunded me 70quid which i thought fair enough they have a a policy where they can keep 25% if a cancellation is made in a day of the order. So if i would have got the refund in the end after buying some glasses from the net it would have come to over 200pound anyway SO they refunded me 70quid so it came to 209 smackers woohoo

result and pleased in a way

My other half had to get new glasses recently - that cost her the best part of Ł300. We both nearly had a coronary - good job they make you sit down before you hand over the card!

There is nothing wrong with paying around Ł300.00 for glasses!

The UK public need to realise that, you are not only paying for the product but also a professionals time!

Also, all glasses are not equal, quality in frames and the optics in lenses vary dramatically, so your Ł300 glasses will be far superior to any botttom of the range cheap crap sold at your local specsavers!!

To put it into perspective, you can buy a Fiesta for Ł10,000 a Porsche may cost Ł70,000 - they are both cars!!

yes... but no, oakleys are good quality, they're hardly the ford fiesta of the glasses world.

Oakleys are indeed good quality, but getting them glazed up via the internet kind of defeats the purpose, sure there is lenses in them but do they take the curve of the frame into account ? Are they centred up correctly, chances are not thus the wearer can experience induced prism resulting in eye fatigue!

Sure, there is a profit margin in optics but there is one in any business. High street rent has to be paid for, test room equipment costs an absolute fortune etc etc!

Also, the more expensive your glasses the smaller the profit margin will be, so you could argue the more expensive the better value for money your getting!

What? Sorry I need new specs every year near enough, high street vendors are plain on fucking extorsion , places like specs direct etc are perfect IMHO, no compromise on quality at all, speaking from LOTS of experience.
