Default Insurance question - home

Right is there any way we can get some personal possession insurance instead of contents insurance?

Basically we are moving into my parents house, my dad is continuing to pay the contents and buildings insurance, but his insurance explained they will only cover the carpets and the appliances he leaves behind ( cooker ) and the kitchen units and bathroom etc.

So we dont actually need full contents insurance as most of it is already covered, just want insurance for our personal possessions, furniture, tv's etc

How would we go about it? as it seems very silly paying contents when its already covered

Thanks in advance

Sarah

You will need to arrange your own contents insurance.
Bathroom/Kitchen fixtures and fittings are covered under buildings insurance. I guess your dad has arranged his cover to include carpets in addition to this.
It may be worth having him delete that section form his policy if your taking up the cover which will cover carpets etc anyhow.
