Default Poss renting issue

Those of you who are renting, are you paying an admin charge every time you renew your contract with a letting agencie ??

I was led to believe this is now illegal, as ive just had to fork ou £175 for 3 A4 sheets to just put my signiture down

Why use a letting agent? surely if you do what our landlord does and simply have your own legal documentation and check references out etc it would save you a fortune?

Was it merely a paperwork fee, or was it a charge for credit checking too?

sorry i mis read what you put. They can charge admin fees im afraid. The landlord will also be charged for it but if he wants it to go through and agency it is probably because he may want them to manage it so he doesnt have to worry about collecting rent/ sorting repairs etc etc.
That can be the only logical reason for him going through an agent as they are going to charge him anything between 5- 15% for the privledge.
Who are you going to be paying your rent to every month? if its the agent then thats the reason. Also have they asked you to be credit checked as if they have it means he would have taken rent guarantee insurance out so he gets paid every month even if you dont.

However do kick up a stink saying you were not informed of any fees at any point and therefore you feel it unjustified. and maybe want a discount
