SKY HD
Think this has been discussed before, but can't find the thread. Just wondering what people with sky HD think. Is it worth the extra money or not? Been onto sky and can get a box for £150 if I take multiroom as well. Just not too impressed with the picture quality of sd sky on my current sky+ box, esp when watching the footy etc.

Looking on the website you seem to get BBC1 and ITV 1 in HD, doesn't mention any other HD channels. Would be interested if you could run in tandem with sky box from the 1 sky dish. Bit gutted as just bought a panny PZ85, looks like the new panny has built in HD receiver.

i have sky HD and there is quite a few channels on it now.
i occasionally watch BBC HD, but its only on at certain hours, and i would be a bit gutted if i only had that and ITV HD.
i reckon sky HD is well worth the money. the documentaries, footy, movies etc looks absolutely stunning in high definition. and you get sky-plus free with it.

i fit sky, aerials and freesat, the freesat hd and sky boxes use the same satellite. if anyones got sky plus, they will have a quad LNB on there dish. this has 4 ports, sky plus uses 2 and the standard multirooms only use 1. this leaves you a free one to run down to your hd tv and use it on freesat.
saw a tv (panasonic viera) advertised on tv last night with freeview (aerial) and freesat (satellite) built in.

There isn't one Dojj. Weird I know!
SkyHD is great. Needs to be more channels though.
Don't forget you get much improved sound as well as picture as SkyHD box has a opitical output for Dolby 5.1 sound.

Seems to a lot of £ for the amount channels you get, so think I'll look into the freesat first. Sky + boxes come with dolby sounds as well, think its optical although might be a coax can't rememeber.

sky HD has about 15 or so HD channels on it now and its only £10 a month extra on top of your sky subs. by todays standards moneywise, a tenner a month is fuck all.
even with the sports package and HD and skyplus, i still pay less than when i had a basic NTL TV package (which was shite and the interactive never worked properly)
dojj, how did you watch eastenders on HD?

And although it has a digital output, very few sky channels actually transmit surround sound

with the hdmi cable you don't need loads of cables cluttering up the place
my sky plus box had cables going in for scarts to 2 units, plus the cables to feed teh signal, plus sound and all sorts
got a digital input amp plus the sky plus and i've got one lead for the telly and one lead for the sound, with one scart to the hd player plus the power lead
same with the ps3
one lead for power, one lead for sound, one lead for picture
thing of the spagetti round teh back of the units and you see exactly what simplifications happen
on another note, my hdmi switch is rapidly fililng up so it may be time for a new one for the other side

ah yes i wasnt saying i didnt beleive you, i didnt realise they were broadcasting eastenders in HD yet and i was a bit excited lol
i heard that the soaps have had to tidy up their sets, because HD would show up the poor workmanship of the walls/doors/windows etc!
now some of the actors need to get some plaggy surgery. soaps is all close-up work and most of eastenders actors MING!

so is ITV HD live now ???
and sky arent showing it ???
i know you can't get channel 4 or 5 through freesat, but i thought sky would have ITV HD.
Does that mean ITV HD has the F1 on it ???

The picture quality from SKY HD isnt very good IMO compared to a Eurobox (i have the Humax HDi2000 on a motorised dish and Euro HD is far better quality for some reason, even BBC/ITV HD look so much better through this box than SkyHD (yes i have SkyHD)

It is a shame it's taking so long to get HD, it is how TV should look. I watched the World Cup in HD on Freeview 2 years ago and now the freeview HD test is over i have bought a Freesat box(Humax Foxsat HD).

how can i record in HD format onto DVD?
it says in the sky HD box instructions that if you record onto dvd from it, that it will record in normal resolution?
i havent tried it yet, but i presumed because the scart out of the HD box goes into my dvd recorder, that it cant record in high definition?
for freesat i'm gonna get a PC freesat TV card in the upstairs computer (which has a HD TV screen) because the satellite dish is just near the bedroom window, so its a piece of piss for me to run another cable in there lol

TOTALLY agree!
its 35p at day!!! WELL worth it!!!
The FIRST thing I do when I turn on Sky is go to the HD channel listings menu and see whats on there first to watch.
on a huge screen it makes a massive difference.

There are expensive ways around it, but I'd either fit a bigger drive to keep stuff or wait until a bluray recorder is available.

if you have a hd picture and record the hd images to a dvd, the dvd will record the hd image and replayi it as a much better quality image than the normal sky look, even though it's in sd and not hd
it's like taking a picture on a really smart flash mega camera and then printing it on a bit of normal paper, the image will still look much better than the one you print out that was taken on your phone at a shonky angle
