Default MSD Closed Loop perfect!

Installed the closed loop conversion from MSD and look at this CO readings!! With the old chip and greens it was set at 3.5% to let it pass the MOT. But only at a higher CO value it would run ok.

Now with this new chip and closed loop it runs like a dream all through the revs, very low CO at idle and a great fuel consumption!

Thanks a lot you guys from MSD!!

I was very tempted by yours but I already have L8 and yours is a different spec so the chip would be wrong.

Well, you need a L8 ECU (saph4x4), the right MSD closed loop chip for your conversion and a lambda sensor. Other parts will remain the same as you already have put in. (like for instant greens or greys, 3 bar mapsensor etc.)

And it sooooo easy to setup. The software does almost everything for you. And you'll get a clear manual with the chip from MSD, it all speaks for itself.

at idle? or fast idle? stus stuff could easily make that...and you could use a sport cat and piss cat tests at any power level

the MOT limit is not necessarily what you should be running it at though, 3.5% is not the cleanest way to idle your engine and give oil and spark plug longevity

As you can see on the little movie that I have enclosed its now between 0,5-0,9% CO.

Same here in Holland. If the car does have a catalystic convertor and lambda sensor fitted new from factory (the green top ones, I think it's 'U9' on the car papers in Holland) then the limit is 0,5% CO.

I dont know if this value will go any lower with the MSD closed loop conversion. I havent tried to adjust the CO screw to see if it can see that value. Maybe best to ask Stu.

But If it is possible to go below the 0,5% CO then I dont know how precise it will stay there. My car has a value from somewhere 0,5% min to 0,9% max at idle, again see the movie.

this may be wrong, but is my understanding:

you won't be able to go lower using a narrow band lambda sensor, as it 'switches' the fuelling alternately slightly rich and lean around the 'ideal' mixture.

the only way to reduce the CO further is to have a catalytic converter

if you used a wide band sensor, it would theoretically be possible to change the point at which the mixture 'homes in' on.

yeah, ii found if weaker than 0.90 as stu recommends, they pick up on lambda fuelling, and surge at idle...

well, the lambda sensor controls fuelling under these conditions by switching from rich to weak, my cossie if weak, the idle speed would rise and fall in time with the rich weak cycle...

Thanks for your answer! I now understand what you mean. Although it looks like mine has a little less then 0,9CO% reading at idle, its hasnt got this problem.
