Basically theyre gonna check your tyre pressures, your oil, see if you have any excess weight in the car, or any roof bars etc etc and then tell you how you can gain extra MPG!!!

Also theyll give your car a general look over!

Its ultimately to get you in and tell you how unhealthy your car is for the environment and try and get you in to one of our new 'Efficient Dynamic' cars!!

Ok i know i am going to be slightly bias.... but the whole ED thing is bloody brilliant!

77 GENUINE mpg out of a 2.0d turbo is bloody good going if you ask me! Not only that, only £35 rfl a year on our 1.8d!

the embarrasing thing is, if youre sat at traffic lights and the engine turns off.... and there are people there when you put your foot on the clutch for it to start again.... they think youve stalled it and laugh at you!

hence.... i turn it off!

They dont yet, but the 'new' 7 series is due out at the end of the year, that 'should' have the optimum shift indicator, Active Aerodynamics, Lightweight engineering, Intelligent Alternator Control/Brake Energy Regeneration, Low-Friction Fluids, Electric Power steering and reduced Rolling resistance Tyre aspects of the Efficient Dynamics......

basically everything other than the Auto stop start!!

i'm not convinced that low friction tyres helps. if you drive on motorways (or hitler's network of autobahns) then yes, but otherwise you can't corner as fast as on high grip tyres so you need additional fuel to accelerate back up to speed after the corner. in the future, with recoverable energy braking systems that won't be as much of an issue

you are saying that you corner over the friction limit of the new "low friction" tyres all the time, which of cause you dont!

im not sure what tyres are fitted to my mini, i think they are low friction ones, and the car really doesnt suffer from them, when they are fucked (soon i think lol) i'll change them for some real grippy tyres! and then see how much of a difference they make

The only regenerative brake systems I know of are on vehicles with electric motors - and certainly not on any road vehicles I might add.......

How about using magnetic brake systems - these are superb, impossible to lock up and never fade or wear out over time - if it works on the jet car that holds the land speed record, then it can work on a road car - There was something about it on Nat Geo the other night

The intelligent alternator control/Brake energy Regeneration certainly IS on our vehicle graceland.. we wouldnt be able to quote it if they weren't!

The alternator disengages automatically when the battery is fully charged, on re-engaging when the battery needs additional charge. In addition the system engages automatically when the vehicle is braking or coasting, to recycle otherwise wasted energy!

So ner!

Its not brake regen though....

LOL

The alternator is only charged to 85% then the charging is stopped until the vehicle is on over run (which includes being on the brakes).

Its not the brakes that are charging the battery, its still the alternator, but its WHEN its charging that changnes.

Its good for a few % of MPG and emissions and POWER!

if the alternator is acting when you press on the brake pedal, then it IS regen braking!

the alternator takes torque to drive to charge the battery! this torque energy comes from somewhere!!

The torque comes from the momentum of the drive train not the brakes...
