Can someone quantify the 2 g/km that I am over?

Is that the same as a Cows fart? If so I am happy to kill a cow and pay less!

obviously the revenue generated by the increase will not help the environment but you must be able to see the point that is to influence people's buying decisions on new cars in an effort to help the environment.

it will not work in the short term, as people facing this increase will do one of 2 things, neither of which are good for the environment:

1) either buy an older car that pollutes more but currently costs less in road fund licence (commonly reffered to as tax, as that is what it seems to have become lately rather than just being used to fund roads )

2) or buy a newer car that pollutes less from the emmisions and costs them less tax, but has a negative effect on the environment as it has been manufactured from raw materials when it would have been better to continue to use an older vehicle
