Default How hard is it to get a job

Right got made redundant in december (retail manager) had enough of doing that so thought time for a change paid out £2500 to do my cpcs 360 digger course which i have passed.

Now the hard bit no one will give me a chance all jobs are advertised for experienced drivers and they dont want to no i mean we all have to start somewhere?

Im hard working and very reliable and enjoyed doing my training and cant wait to get a job but its driving me mad i want work and no one will let me.

anyone else having any trouble like this?

you would have been better, if you were already working and they put you on the course. but thats not possible.

as said best bet is agency work. or become self employed, and become friendly with some local building firms.

idealy if you had your own plant, but you could hire to start with.

only other option i can think is go to ur local council office, , they may have something, and the pay is normally good.

try turning up at the transport yard where the job is advertised and ask them to give you a trial. 5 minutes behind the controls could speak volumes. i really doubt they'd turn you away cold without a trial if your actually there.

same as lorry driving really, what you need to do is sign up to EVERY agency going!although a lot of jobs are done through many agencies, some agencies are the only ones with a few jobs.or....get a loan and buy a digger?do it self employed?

certain jobs on the 360 require more skill than other jobs etc...moving soil/hardcore then there are jobs digging footings out using different attatchments etc...

try to get a job where there is not that much skill involved, then you can blag it a bit then, you should be ok.

then when you get the experience of the machine you can then go onto other jobs.

Like you say moving soil/hardcore i can do pretty easy but digging footings takes time to get good at it i mean i can do it all just takes ages as i have only done a 10 day training course which is not long seen as i had never been in one before...

got it in one,
I started off in a quarry, where there are v. poor operators (there are some real good ones too before i get shouted at) and little skill needed. But its Ideal for getting the feel of the equipment.
Then I went to work for an engineering firm on contract hire.
Then self employed
