Fixing a ceiling rose to ceiling?
My dad bought some reproduction plaster ceiling roses for the house last year, and being the lazy man that he is has never got them put up, theyre not the flimsy polystyrene ones theyre proper plaster ones, and not exactly lightweight, how would we go about fixing them to the ceiling? I am intending on doing all the things he hasnt got round to, and trying to replace as many of the original features that we can

first of all is it a ground or intermediate or top floor ceiling the options are different
top floor ceiling
drill a few small holes tru the moulding and counter sink it,insert or put a bit of plywood in the roofspace side of the ceiling, put some plaster adhesive on the moulding and screw the moulding up through the ceiling and the ply and let it set, fill in the holles and sand down
Intermeddiate
same except use toggle bolts or plastic plasterboard fixings
top floor ceiling

As above. I'd use plasterboard adhesive and a couple of screws, obviously don't over tighten them. Have the ceilings been under boarded with plasterboard? I wouldn't recommend corkscrew fixings if its still the old lathe and plaster. You might be lucky and find a floor joist to screw into.

I think he means if the diameter of the ceiling rose is 400mm, I then presume the spacing of joists should be every 400mm, but that might be right for a new house but probably not how your house is built if its an old house.

sounds similar to one i done last year, about 1200mm with an outer rings.get it all marked out, find the joists, drill and counter sink your holes in the plaster,be very careful as it cracks easily,i put mine up dry, just the screws holding it.make sure you have enough flex for the light fitting too,and if changing to a bigger heavier fitting make sure you have somewhere for it to screw or bolt too.the outer ring was a pig as by that time my neck was aching.looked great when i'd painted it all
i done mine off a tower, and that was difficult enough .
