Default BEST small car for mpg?

Claire currently has a fiesta 1.4 zetec (petrol) and it does about 36mpg. She does about 50 mile a day to and from work so was wanting something that would only use a gallon a day ie: 50+mpg.?

Was thinking about the new Fiat 500 but for what they are they are stupid money.

Doesn't have to be new either.

Get a diesel mate. A 1.4 one of those would see 50 to the gallon.

Sometimes think now if diesel is much better as its a fair bit more expensive now due to twats that is fuel companys.

Though saying that a 1.4TD C2/3 are cheap ish and good MPG fester TDCI, Polo blue motion etc.

I agree with Stu, not as many petrols return as good consumption as you want.

The 1.4 HDi Citroen C3s run on fumes.

But they have similar build quality to a 4 year old's attempt at making the Blue Peter Tracey Island out of potato.

Diesel Fusion, Yaris etc. are good?

1.6 TDCI Fiesta Zetec S is very economical and good fun. And they only cost 50 odd quid a year for road tax.

I have a fabia vrs & I get 55-60 mpg.

Remapped you'll get 180bhp & 300lbf.

Have seen me getting high 60's on long journeys.

Toyota Aygo 1.0 will do 60mpg+ and is on petrol not diesel which is 10% cheaper to buy at the pumps!

Top tip though, the citreon C1 is the same car and cause its a citreon it has shit residuals so is the better secondhand buy.
