sprayed my wings and
one's come up all nice and shiney (ok, it's still got loads of marks but it's enought to be passable if i were to fit it on, it's red afterall ) but the other ones come up all dull and shitty
why's this then?
they both got a bit of wetting with some 1200 grit on the side that's going to have the paint and the one that already had paint on it is fine, but the other one has gone really dull, even after 3 coats
i can't help that there's loads of dust, they were only going to be sprayed to get them passable in any case
anyone shed any light?
it was nice and warm where i sprayed them as it's up under the glass skylights upstairs

one wing was second hand so already had paint on it, this ones come up shiney
the other was a new wing with just the black coat of primer on it
both were rubbed down so i can't understand why one's shiney and ones not
did i need to put a primer on before i sprayed the colour onto the new wing then? it's got at least 3 coats on it now so it should have had enough
oh yeah, giving it a few coats has hidden some of the runs

yes i should be primed first.
the transit primer has absorbed all the paint.
i give it 2 weeks before it flakes off with no etch on it,
any new panels i fit, i go through this process..
remove transit primer. 600grit on flat block to check panel surface and condition
panel wipe.
etch prime.
2k prime x 2 coats
guide coat
flat back 800grit
panel wipe
spot prime if needed
panel wipe, and tack rag
ready for paint

New panel:
Prep - get an industal sctotch pad onit, go over it like your rubing it down, Panel Wipe, Etch Prime it, then 2k Prime it, Wet flat it, Panel wipe, paint it, Wet flat with 2000 Grit wet & dry the panel carefully, Break out the polisher with a nice grittly polish should turn out quite well if you do it right
never you use cans either

i don't mind as i've got another 6 cans left in this colour
besides, the rubbing down took all of about 5 minutes to get both wings sorted and ready to go
it's the first time i've tried this so i'm still learning how to do it, but i'm also going to ask about how to spray the bumper as it's plastic, will that be best left to the bodyshop then or can i give it a go with the normal stuff?
the bumper already has paint on it so would this be a problem? or do i need to use a proper plastic paint specificly for bumpers?

i would buzz all that shit off and start over.
there are some very good 2k aerosol primers out there to use.
as for you bumper, key it in, dont rub through, prime, flat and paint
the main issue with 1k paint and primer is shrinkage, looks ok ish when done, give it a week and its shrunk back and looks shite

oh dear.
paint sounds like its bloomed. if you used cellulose based paint then simply give it a blow over with neat thinners, this should remove the blooming. not too much as will melt paint.
if you used an acrylic of 2pac, rub it back and start again.
you did use an etch primer and high build primer first, yeh?

check
scotch pads?
check
do i need to use washing up liquid in the water when i rub it down then as i've seen this done in the past?
so rubbed down again to the metally bits have come through and then start with the list of things you said and carry on yes?
how long will it take?
and should i sweep the garage clean of all the sawdust first before i attempt to spray in there or is outside in the sun better?
or will it attrack the fllies and other insects?

no, it's properly painted
it's just blue, which was one of the things that the quote lady said would be a problem as it would need to be a different colour possibly before it went red
to be honest, you guys seem to know what you are talking baout so would this be a Ł700 job and take 3 days? one of the wings has a little dent in it, and you might just be able to spot it in the picture, the shiney wing has a little crease just at the front of the arch about a foot into the curve, it pops out but then pops back again when you let go, how easy is this to fix then?
