Default Why are there holes in a saph floor on the jacking points???

Just noticed this the other day when i had the carpet out, seems like a stupid idea. The long bit that sticks out under the car beside the hole for the original jack, well at the other side of that (in the car), there are slots cut in the floor for Some sort of ventillation type thing, thats the only puprose i can think of, but, do you really need it, and mine has rusted making it look rank, the metal is all crumbly and rusty!

the jack goes in and hooks onto this bit of metal to stop it from popping out

if you've got a seirra jack you'll know it's not the best design in the world

I don't think we're talking about the same bit
You have the hole/round bit that the jack slides into, is that the bit you mean, BUT you also have a long bit beside that, about 7 or 8 inches long thats beside it. Inside the car there are some "vents" cut in the floor opposite this bit.

the "vents" n the floor on the inside of the car are so that you can cut open the floor to get to the corroded arb to body captive nuts when they rust up and snap off
