Picked up my new toy/project last night...
all 42 bhp of it
gave it a good clean and a bit of a tcut today so i can see what i have to deal with. it had been stood for near 2 years outside and was absoutely filthy!
now for the good bits!
the selotape was on the roof to stop the water pouring in when i washed it! :cyy:
the good news though, is that all the major structural bits are solid, its covered in little scabs, needs a new scuttle and a fibreglass front end, a patch on the inner sill and the front of the rear arches, but its got front and rear 2k miles old subframes, the sills and jack points have been done, the boot floor is mint, the doors are damn near mint, the little 998cc engine is like brand new (66k) and, i didnt realise until today it has AP 4 pots on the front!!!
plan is to tidy up the bodywork, cut the rot out and rivit a plate over the sunroof, fibreglass front end, some nice cobra cream leather classic bucket seats, carbon fibre dash and door cards, rollcage and maybe a stage 1 kit (exhaust, rockers, and airfilter = 50 bhp ) until i can afford to build a really nice 1275 with straight cut box. 4 pin diff, +40 thou rebore etc (aiming for (110 bhp).
bodywork wise i am unsure, i was originaly thinking just rattle can in matt black and debumper it as its gonna be ragged every time its driven and tracked when i can, but now i'm thinking maybe ford olimpic blue??? (this kinda colour -> ) with a black roof with silver union jack and a few bits of chrome. i'm not spendind mega money on the paint as at the end of the day its there to keep the rust off!
what do you think then? ideas for the colour scheme?

If you need any technical info or struggle getting any parts i share a unit with a shed load of mini club members. Honestly i try doing a repair on my three door and i find my self surrounded by mini door's bonet's head light's and of course ten guy's all looking under the bonnet of my car at a real engine lol. Seriously though these guy's know everything about mini's it's frightening so if you need any info i'll ask em for you.

A really trick conversion that seems to work really well
The 1275 metro unit is about 74 bhp out the box - But the Mini Miglias Run 1293s and develop Circa 180 bhp + 0-60 in Sub 4 seconds
Next time you can have a look at their website , these things are like little touring cars , carbon front ends , 3 peace wheels , they are amazing
youll find yourself fallin for it big time, i still get goose bumps when i hear a mini door slam , sad i know - Olympic Blue sounds spot on tho , Shove a bike engine in the boot and scare yourself

Cheers guys, Ill put a thread up in the projects section when i get going with it.
I'm hoping to get the roof water tight and by the end of this week and get it in the garage at my nans and start pulling bits off it. Think i will sort the scabs first so i can see if any of them are going to need welding, then order a new scuttle and fibreglass front end next month. It's going to be a slow project as it will have to fit arround the rallying, but i'm aiming to have it on the road by july next year.
Whats the BMW head conversion? just googled it and found a few bits but no decent explanations? Sounds far too complicated anyway
