The offset of a wheel is the distance from the Centre line of the wheel to the Mounting face. No real easy way to measure it though.

Also, remember that the overall width of a wheel isn't the number that is referred to as its width (i.e. a 7" wheel actually measures 7 1/2" at its widest point), just incase this misleads you in any way.

I would establish the centre line of the wheel by measuring its true width then place a straight edge on the centre line and measure between that edge and the mounting face. Hope that makes sense.

still not sure,

but i thought it was measured from the back of the wheel hubb, to to outer edge of the wheel,

as the wheels sits against the hube this must be the important bit?

Martin,
youre right , that measurement will give you the " Backspace " , you then need to establish the centreline of the wheel and then subtract one from the other !

How is the spring clean going ???

Place wheel flat face down.

Measure back space as you have described by placing a straight edge across the top rim and measure down from this to the hub face. Then measure wheel width (which will be height now as its on its side).

Subtract the back space from the rim width and divide by two.

Zero offset means the hub is in the centre
Positive offset means the hub is more near the face of the wheel
Negative offset means the hub is more near the inner side of the wheel.

Just found this.... http://www.yokohamatire.com/utwheels.asp

right just measured them again,

and i make the centre of the wheel from edge to edge 228 mm so haft that

114mm take off the 137 mm and so offset is 23mm

does this sound right?
