Dubai
I've been offered a job of a lifetime in Dubai sub-contracting for a very large design consultancy.
The money is rediculous, free villa etc, they are talking around a 4 year term. I have been to dubai but only for a week to visit an ex colleague out there before going to thialand.
Has anyone actually lived there for a year or more that could give pro's and conn's on actually living there?
Very big decision but I am seriously considering it.
Nick.

When I was there I loved the place, but there is a big difference between having a holiday somewhere and living there.
Would mean having to let the people go that work for me at the moment as well as they only want me.
The more I think about it, the more I think if I dont do it now, I never will!
Oh and I get a maid lol!!!

At the end of the day, it may be for four years but they won't kill you if you back out early (or will they ).
Give it a try, make the most of it, look at the long term goal when facing the little hurdles life throws at you and enjoy it for what is a unique opportunity.
I am constantly looking at opportunities for a life changing move at the moment, and that would be one

Or, leave the business running with someone else while you're away - if you're contracting, you can run two jobs can't you...

That is a viable option but could probably create more headaches than it would solve.

Its a no brainer.
Good bye mate
I could well be seeing you out there in a few months...
Oh and you won't come back... no one ever does!
you might move out somewhere like Abu dhabi which is a bit more relaxed than Dubai though.
great weather, lovely pace of life, zero crime, LOW LOW taxes...

HAHA, my partner is definately up for it! Think she's packed already and gone looking for new bikini's!!
Going to give it some serious consideration and have a look and research the property that they provide you with etc (also want a pic of the maid)
They have given me a long time to decide though 23/05/2008
I believe you can get cars very cheap as well! Not sure my allowence would stretch to a F430, but i'm sure I could make up the difference!

Do it, I've been looking for a job, But its finding one that suits me being the trade I am, 30k tax free, Free accom, and everything else you've said...
Sounds like a way of life rather than just a 4 year stint, Better than this shithole of a country
I wish I got out the RAF sooner, I'd could have well been there
Good luck!

My pleasure, always here to help a friend in need. I'll take the A5, I am sure my other half could do with it, as for the bike, well, I'll endeavour to get my bike licence in the next few weeks so I can give her a good run from time to time

Chap from our place is shipping his family over soon. It certaily sounds good.
Do you have any children to consider? If the answer is 'no', then why are you still here??

This country is seriously poo poo and if the opportunity ever arose for me to leave then I'd be off like a shot. Dubai is only about 7-8 hours away from the Uk so not bad for visits home and the standard of living out there is so much better than here.
Good luck in whatever you decide, I wish opportunities like that would fall into my lap

UPDATE TIME, been having a chat with the missus answering her stupid question like, do they have english make-up, what about the dentist and gp lol.
I'm going to goto to London to talk about the final proposal in more detail and speak to family. It's looking more and more likely though.
