125bhp, 0-60 9.1 seconds, and 121mph top speed according to Ford. When I was a lad I wanted my dad to get one instead of a boring LX. i remember the figures and spend weeks trying to persuade him.
For some random reason, I've always thought the black B pillar looked good.

they were the run out models from march 92 onwards
basic spec and only a flash name, basicly an azure with lx bits, red trim and a dohc engine and drum brakes
people think they are the shit, but they really are just boggo sierra's
much better off with a gls as a model to start with

ok fair enough. i been borrowing my mates 1.8 cvh which i might buy but saw that too. which would you choose. the pic of my mates is here https://passionford.com/forum/showth...=1#post3286078

There's not that much difference between them! Same engine, and similar trim. maybe the odd bit of extra electrickery in the GLS, but that's about it.

and things like front fogs, electric mirrors, much wider availability and better suspension as standard too

Aah, electric mirrors, that's swung it for me, the GLS is far superior

That was a drifting accident too...
As for your question about whether to go for your mates 1.8 cvh or a GT, have absolutely no doubt that if you are interested in performance, the 2.0 dohc in the gt absolutely out does the cvh in every way!!!
I had a 1.8 cvh and it was crap, it was only good enough for cruising in, whereas the 2.0 dohc is in my opinion a very nicely balanced engine if you want to have a bit of fun and if you are interested in drifting, i'll say my GT was a shit load of fun. The only thing that would be more beneficial for drifting with them would be an lsd though. The red one in my first photo now has an lsd from a 4x4 in it and i have been told it is so so much better than without. Have had many a fun damp/wet day drift sessions
So if you want a cruiser, consider both, a wee bit of power, the GT, such a better engine. The 1.8 cvh is shit...
I have had 2 Sierras with the 2.0 dohc (EFI) engine and i honestly cant fault it at all, i had absolutely no problems with either of the 2 of them, my GT had 150+ thousand miles on it and it got caned every single day just getting hammered wherever i went and it didn't ever miss a beat, my 2.0 4x4 Saph had the same engine which had 80+ thousand miles on it and never had a single problem with it although it was quite under powered for the 4 wheel drive but was still good fun at times.
Another plus point is that the cvh has a timing belt and the dohc has a timing chain. I snapped the timing belt on my second cvh and killed the crankshaft seal in my first one. The cvh's just aren't up for the job in my opinion. It was my first Sierra and i did like it as i hadn't experienced any dohc Sierra engines first hand and was bit wary about buying my first one because of my experiences with my cvh engines in my first Sierra but they are so so different in every way...
The power output of the 2 are stated in the book as being:
1.8 cvh - 90 PS
2.0 dohc (efi) - 125 PS or 120 PS with catalytic converter.

I used to drive about in a 2.0 Ghia DOHC EFI and it was actually quite quick for what it was and was pretty much indestructable!!
Took everything i threw at it! LOL!
My advice. GT over the 1.8 CVH everytime!

everyone seems to be raving about he gt due to the engine, but it's the same dohc 125 brake, melted head gasket engine as found in every 2.0 sierra from around 89 onwards, carb'd and injected versions
change the fan switch, make sure there is a 40% mix of antifreeze to 60% water in the cooling system and job jobbed
