I know there are peeps that use them as daily drivers, If I absolutely had to use mine daily I know it would be reliable. But, I don't and don’t like leaving it anyway. Depends what sort of rst your looking at, a standard example will be ok and not too costly on fuel, probably more that ur current car tho! Where as if you are wanting something with more power then you have to think about the fuel costs and drive / reliability...... HTH

Mine was fine when it was standard. (bar an exhaust and filter)

The problems only began when I raised the boost.

Though TBH I wouldn't use it as a daily drive again. Get a cheap car with all the mod cons.. i.e power steering air-con etc and far better value for money.

Try driving a 1.4 Orion everyday for 70 miles a day then, thats boring! lol

I've been thinking of getting a standard S2 for ages aswell but i'm not sure if I can justify the increase in fuel costs, my average miles per week must be 400+ easily, think the fuel bill would crucify me!

Anyone know what the MPG is on a standard 132bhp ERST?

Roy, i use mine every day, but as you know i didnt use my gti everyday LOL! TBHi only do about 5 mile a day to work and back and sometimes to town and girlfriends, so in all only around 100mile a week, costs me about 20-25 quid a week in petrol!

At the moment little niggly things are going wrong with it (new rad 2 weeks ago), exhaust flexi blowing (but this is down to it catching on me drive every time i go onto it!) but i love it and its soooo much more fun than the gti! Cant stop grinning when i boot it and it comes onto boost, fighting like fcuk to get grip before the ponce in his pug 306 gti6 catches up!!

Up until very recently my RST was my daily driver and has been modded extensively. I've had no problems with it whatsoever whilst using it to get to and from work but it was thirsty on the fuel. The short runs probably didn't do it much good either.

I now have an Audi A4 Avante as my daily runner and my RST is kept for best.

So anyone know the MPG on a standard ERST then, or where you can find it?

not the nicest cars in the world to drive... i'd have something a bit more modern with some mod-cons

bu then if its an all round car not just a runabout, then you have to compromise somewhat on the mod-cons

yeah thats an idea, will look in to some diesel cars and see what i could pick up

i wern't really wanting big power (Not just yet anyway ) but to bring it up to 140/150 would be nice. If i did get a diesel car as a runabout and only really used the rst on weekends could i get classic insurance to limited miles? i seen some companies do it but you need to be over 25

cheers for the help guys

I used my old series 2 everyday doing 250 miles a week for 2 and a half years, averaged 23 miles to the gallon at 170bhp now thinking of getting an escort cosworth as a daily car, but i only do 100 miles a week now

used to use my rst as a daily driver when it was standard
dont do it anymore costs too much on fuel too unreliable plus would'nt leave it anywhere out my sight now to many jealous pricks out there. bought a mondeo as a daily driver now just leave the turbo for when im feelin down
not long on puttin a smile back on your face
keepin it standard you'll have no big problems should get 100mile for £15-£20 depending on how much you thrash it.
