Default Best value performance tyre?

Will be to go on my Mk3 Escort (300+BHP expected) in 195/50-15

Was thinking of getting 888s but they ain't cheap, and maybe not the best for wet use? (The car will be doing a bit of everything, road, track etc....).

Spotted some real good deals on the bay for Toyo Proxies and Yoko Paradas..... any opinions/recommendations?

With that power, I would go R888, and not use it in the wet!!

195 are going to spin in the wet, no matter what they are with 300bhp and FWD.

Never heard of these Silverstone tyres, might be worth some investigation...

Never found a huge difference between 195 and 205 grip wise to be honest.

Yokahama Paradas are nice tyres, don't last long but they do what it says on the tin. They also look the bollocks

Toyo Proxes. Cant go wrong. Or if you can find some, Velocity Extreme's. Used to buy them at about Ł24 a tyre fitted with VAT and were just as good as the proxes!!! As far as i know though they have stopped importing them, as they were south african Yokohama's but dirt cheap.

Toyo Proxes 4's are what we had last year cheap for the 195/50/15 only 34quid each delivered to your door.

Good wet weather tyre. Dry maybe a problem as they can wear quite quick.

Bit of a rank outsider this but Marangoni Zeta Linears have performed really well on my track shitter, which is also used regularly on the road. I know Dave from Performance Ford used them on the track fiesta, and they sponsor the redline yaris (if thats anything to go on!)

My 195/45/16's were about 40 quid each and i rate them really highly!

I had the T1R on my astra and it killed them in 6,000 miles, obliterated the edges both sides of the tyre, both tyres.
The previous T1S lasted 16,000-18,000 miles, the F1's have been on for 4500miles and don't look at all worn.
The astra is only a 1.4 auto(mk3) ok it's a ENZO killer but, the T1R's shoud still have been better.

I've no idea how many miles my tyres ever last, I just know that I'm forever replacing them

I'm similar to you on 1 of my car's 300+bhp and fwd.

I find Eagle f1 GSD3's to be the best budget tyre. About 35 each and last a while.
R888's are ultimately better, but don't last half as long, (literally) and cost more.

Does value and performance really go together in the same sentence?

I take it that's a 'everything that is expensive is automatically better' comment?

Anyway, we're talking 'best value', and the best value option could be the dearest or cheapest option in theory
