no its not running lamaba, i was thinking possibly map sensor but the one on its is not that old but it could be faulty. the car does hunt up and down a lot at idle as well. its that bad it had constant flamer kit style flame out the exhaust some times on the way home on the motorway!

My car is running way too rich too!

Bought the car last year and seemed to be smokey ( heavy fuel ) and also idled lumpy, then sometimes fine. The car two weeks earlier had a MSD map & set up ( £1000).

Ive for other reasons had a Full rebuild and new T38 and just turned 500miles. The car is still heavey on fuel, prob more so as im now running less boost too......

Going to send it in for checking as i dont want to wash the bores or anything..........best to be safe eh?

Cant afford to burn fuel for fun with these prices LOL

First guess would be map sensor as main culprit so swap that out and then next up would be coolant temp sensor.

Do you have a mate wth a cossie who's map sensor you could quickly swap over and try?

The best way to test is with a vacuum pump.
Apply vacuum, and you will/should see,
280 MM HG 0.66-0.76 volts
500 MM HG 1.36-1.45 volts
650 MM HG 1.81-1.91 volts
750 MM HG 2.11-2.20 volts
If you do not have a vacuum pump then check ignition on(engine off) SIGNAL RETURN is 2.2volts, then 0.25-0.6 volts at idle, check the voltage changes as revs are increased.
Also note 2wd and 4wd MAP are DIFFERENT, same dimensions/readings etc, but TERMINALS are in a different order.

matt; i had the same problem on my car; hunting up and down the revs; very rich and it turned out to be the ECT sensor (blue sensor on the inlet side of the head) easy/ cheap fix and also good to replace sensors....good place to start, cheaper than a map sensor anyhow

£9.95 delivered from matt lewis off here, or try his ebay shop

I would start with the CTS...a friend of mine just had the same problem...overfueling big time...it was a bad connection on his....Have had this problem on my own car too and also on other Cossies... most of them where cured with a new CTS....so there is at good chance that CTS is the problem!
