people can slag them off but there is no getting away from the fact they are still quick by todays standards, very tuneable, extremely popular and the cossy parts/cars/merchandise commands a premium compared to alot of other enthusiasts marques

there is always gonna be a RS vs Jap rivallry though.

question is, will the jap cars be as popular as the cossys in 20-25 years time....

They're only unreliable shonky pieces of cr@p if they're not properly mantained.

A well maintained & looked after cossie will be as reliable as any other car of the same era

There not quick by todays standards though are they, standard escort cossie would get obliterated by a sti scooby or evo. My old stage3 escort wasnt as quick as a standard scooby sti.

Sorry but i disagree a bit with that.

If a guy goes to a major tuner
and Spends money on a Brand NEW engine block, and all the parts to go in it, including a brand new oil pump from cosworth..
thats doing it PROPERLY IMO,

and yet its well documented that recent 200 blocks crack,
and oil pumps fail for one reason or another,

it dont matter if he built the engine himself, or if cosworth built it in their workshop. or Any tuner for that matter... these parts are Proven to be un-reliable of late!
no amount of 'good maintainance' regular oil changing or fresh spark plugs are going to stop this happening!
