Possibly a silly question, but did you change the oil after you fitted a new headgasket?

that rules out water being sucked up that has settled in the bottom of the sump then

Ummm..........blocked galleries? you did put the head gasket on the right way didn't you?

Or it could just be a knackered sensor - have a look at the cheapest option first - the wire to it, maybe its frayed and exposed and when the engine is at idle, the vibrations cause it to touch the block thus earthing it out, and when you rev the engine, the movement of the engine on the mounts moves the wire out of the way - just a thought

Check the hexagonal drive out the dizzy to the pump, if this is not worn at all, then I'd say you may be looking at a new pump!!

Could be the core plug on the pressure release valve ?

Had this happen on my old Harvey engine once, sudden lose of Oil Pressure, light would flicker @ at 1200 rpm & be on @ idle. Go out if reved the engine but knew it'd still be low.

Removed the dizzy/pump pulley, then the cover behind it & found the plug hangin bout in there, got a new one, hermitite green'd it in & was spot on from that day on !

Cheap & easy fix, core plug bout 2 quid & some hermitite ! Did it sort of in situ too !

Good luck matey !
