what do you mean mate any pros and cons for either would be great seeing as youve owned both?! i didnt think there would be ahuge difference other than size and the looks? as for 2wd or 4wd id like a 4wd as they are genrally newer and in better nick, but every one says 2wd is more fun, its gona be a summer car for shows and weekend lane blasting!

The 2wd saph is the best pound for pound cosworth by a long way imo. Escort has the wow factor and thats it imo, realistically what are you getting for an extra 10k over a 4x4 saph?

are they worth me saving up the extra cash, are they that good compared to a saff? its probably gona take me a year or so to make the difference, i dont mind this its just i could get a saff as soon as the leon goes! i know i could just test drive a few but i dont like the idea of doing that when i havent actually got the funds to buy?

All you have to do brake it down into parts, i'm pretty sure that all the running gear ie suspension, transmission, brakes etc are identical on the 4x4 saph and escort cossie(i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong?). The bt escort has a t34 but so do loads 4x4 saphs these days as loads are runing stage3.
Its horses for corses tbh as i hatted my escort and loved my 2wd saph but others are the complete oposite and love the escorts and hate the saphs, so i suppose you will have to go and test drive a 2wd saph a 4x4 saph and an escort

Hello mate, ive had both to and if your not out for looks buy a nice late 4wd Saff, i personaly like the Escos much more for the look of the car, but i really liked my saff to, was a really nice car, just always wanted an Escos. Mark

cheers mark, id love an escort, they do look great and it is my dream car. i just dont know if i can be patient enough to save the extra cash, when i could already be enjoying a saff, im also thinking 13k for a summer car is a bit exsesive!

personally ide go for a saff and am saving for one now
, i love the look of the escorts but i can justify spending that amount of money on on when its basically a 4x4 saff with and escort shell on it

hi matcos, my budget is actually 7kish what i meant was you need 13k to get a decent escos, do you own an escos now then i take it mat? it seems reassuring that you would still buy a saff again even though you have the cos! must say im deffinatly leaning towards a saff now!

Yes I have owned my Escort for 7 years and in that time I have had two 4x4 Saffs aswell, they are great cars, I would deffo get another , it wouldn't replace the Escort though.
Buy the newest lowest mileage car you can, with leather and aircon if poss, makes a very nice useable car that you can tune to 500bhp plus if you want.

I own an escort and im contemplating selling it for a mk5 golf gti or a saff next
Escort has always been my dream car, it looks amazing, goes amazing, and simply i love driving it, but the biggest let down is you simply cant leave it anywhere. not just fear of theft but even someone denting a wing with their door in a car park as the escort has unique pannels.
saff is cheaper and possibly more fun and you could almost park it in the street with out people seeing it, as its fairly subtle looking compared to the escos.
I dont know why people complain about the money its all relative. get a saff for 6k, can sell it for 6 again. yeh 13-15ks a lot for and old escort, but again you can sell it for this aswell!!

i still love saffs tbh.but the drive of the escort is better for a toy.it handles alot better than my saff.and they both had koni's,poly bushes etc.
but i have to say for comfort the saff has it.i dont need comfort now as its not an every day car now.my saff was.
also chucking 20k min at a saff thats onlt worth 8k is the downer.an escort will always pull at a min 12k for a good un.and i bought mine already at good power.
but the saff is your cheap way into cossie ownership 2wd or 4wd.
really depends on you.i'd still buy another saff if i had too
