i did my direct access in feb 06,off peak is cheaper but colder!

i did it at a place called west penine rider training in blackburn,it cost me Ł300 including bike and helmet hire for 3 days cbt to full access license including test fee.dont think the price will have gone up too much but i know that during peak season it ranges between Ł500 and Ł650 around the north west.

NCB - you will have none as you have not had a bike before. do a quote on a 600 again with 0 NCB and tell us some 600's can be cheap as they are new biker friendly, honda cbf600, suzuki gsxf650 etc, but some will be a lot more (sports 600's like R6, CBR600RR etc

Already done CBT and theory,
Did my DA last month, Ł500 for a 3 day course inc test.

Bought myself an SV650 to wobble around on for 12 months, prob will get my money back on it too
Picked it up yesterday, went for abit of a ride just to get to familiarise myself with it, had cars overtaking me in some places, but given my lack of experiance I would rather do what I did, and come home in 1 piece

A bike is only as dangerous as the cunt thats on it, If I wanted to ride like a twat yesterday, I could have

Totally agree. Some bikers just seem to have a phobia about being behind another vehicle...they overtake EVERYTHING ANYWHERE! I was never in that much of a rush tbh!

Hes right. Yes someone can pull out on you but they can in a car! Less likely to happen if your not doing 150mph....

That was an old zxr400 h model.

I got the l model and it's a1. Got it dyno'd it was 71 bhp with the mod's on it and reliable.
I've had a few bike's and for the money you cant go wrong.
I've also had a gamma 250 and the prilla 250 and they are fun but very very delicate.

I'm on the lookout for a tlr1000 or sp1/2 but not really a first bike lol

Fella,

do it in style. Go for a gixxer 750, and do what i did, blow 40k On it, 2 weeks old got hit head on and the bike was written off.

The only people that enjoyed it was Jamie at Fast Bike magazine. They did a feature last march 07 and it was under the uk's most espensive and extoic gixxer.

Just do your Diamond advance and some track days and respect the bike and remember car drivers say they never saw you syndrome.

All the best, just had a new K8 Thou and very impressed with it.

What sort of budget do you have to spend on the bike mate?

If you can stretch to around Ł3k-Ł3.5k, get a k4 or k5 gsxr 600 (2004-2005). Excellent all round bikes, 120 bhp and more than enough. Much better than an R6 of the same era in my opinion.

The newer you can go the better, as the newer ones are much easier and nicer to ride, even though they have much more power. K4-K5 600's have around 120bhp, which will be more than enoguh for a year at least.

I had a K5 600 for my first bike and had that for a year and loved it. Just respect the bike and take it steady until your used to the power. Ive recently upgraded to a K6 GSXR 750 as i much prefer suzuki's to any of the others.

Id pass your test on the hire bike (that will be included in the DAS price, i paid Ł500 all in), then test ride the 600 range and see which one suits you. Different bikes suit different people, there all very different.

it's usually a case of when rather than if - but it may not necessarily be your first bike. but one day you will do something silly and forgetful and drop it

i had a r6 at 19, restricted tho, but i have loads of bike experience. i've raced motorcross and held a bike licence since i was 16.

an r6 is a serious bike thats capable of serious speed, so just bear that in mind when jumping on a super bike with no experience
