Diesel V's Petrol--Whats cheaper to run NOW
A while ago it used to be cheaper to run a Diesel than a petrol.......
Whats the score now........ Would you buy a petrol over a diesel car???
Just got me thinking earlier.........as i filled up my LPG Audi

I just went from a C230 Kompressor Merc to a 1.8D Escort van, hoooooooooooooooring cheaper... Don't think it's quite the same performance though

Not the comparison you were looking for i'm sure but it is saving me a heap of money to buy a Cossie

i laugh at comments about how much it is to fill up.
i had a mate a few years ago who'd put a tenner in his mk2 fiesta and say "look! LOOK! ged, half a tank!! not many cars get half a tank from a tenner!"
?!?!? lol the size of your tank doesnt relate to mpg LOL!!
like when people say "it only cost me Ł30 to fill up HEHEHEHE" !! that doesnt mean you get any more of less mpg than someone elses who's cost Ł60 to fill up?!?!

10 k and my poo us is yours lol
This week I am driving the poous aggressively i suspect it will drop to around 40 -45 mpg they aren't slow off the mark using constant variable transmission and the 1500 cc petrol engine and massive torque from the elctric motor are both used when accelerating so it has two engines when needed

Yeah that is true like but for every day cars, i don't think mpg will be greately effected by your fuel weight to be honest. Maybe tiny but hardly noticable...

as we know power out puts on modern run of the mill cars have doubled since the early 80's but performance hasn't due to the weight of the cars doubling with safety features and gadgets all modern fuel eco friendly cars have huge amounts spent on weight saving as do performance cars like the evo and scoobies

Overall I think it's got to be close when you take into account overall running costs.
An important factor to remember is that when the modern diesels go wrong they are invariably more expensive than petrols to fix! Just had some warranty work done on a 55 plate X-type Diesel [yes, the bodykitted mondeo] and it needed new injectors. Their bill would have been over Ł2000.
How much would a similar thing cost on a petrol? Half that?
So all that money you save in a years diesel motoring could be wiped out in an instant.

well a decent mid sie saloon driven carefully will do 35mpg on petrol IMO. Petrol is around 108p per litre
So,( 108 * 4.546 ) / 35 = 14p per mile
Now I gues its safe to say that same car on diesel will do around 45mpg combined, with diesel at 117p
So (117 *4.546 ) / 45 = 11.8p per mile 272.31
now contrast that with the above petrol car doing around 30mpg on lpg, at 60p per litre
SO now we have (60 * 4.546 ) / 30 = 9.07p per mile.
The governmnt will fuck us on lpg eventually tho, lets be honest but its a good ride in the mid term
To answer the OP,derv is still cheaper
Also bear in mind what youre paying, I bought an lpg car for 100 quid with 8 month mot on it, if youre paying out for the conversion you may take more time than you think to break even, same if a diesel model costs more than petrol new, or has higher residuals

Well if diesel costs 1.15 per litre
and petrol costs 1.05 per litre doesn't that mean that a petrol car is 9% cheaper for each litre
So if your diesel does 45mpg you petrol would need to do within 9% of thay to be more cost effective (fuel -wise) which is give or take 41mpg
My petrol 2.0 does 30mpg so i'd still go with diesels for day to day running but dont think things costs more anyways? And like Paddy said don't they cost loads to fix?
Plus my car is alot more fun to drive than a silly diesel!!

imo most people with petrol cars just drive them most people with a diesel tend to drive more economical 40-45 mpg is what i got out of my golf tdi when i drove it like my petrol
lets face it none of us are really bothered about how much fuel we burn in litres poluting the atmosphere what bothers us is the amount of money it now cost us to burn that fuel.We cannot control the amount it cost us the only thing we can control to reduce this excessive rip off i s the amount we use

which is probaly why the tax man has a higher fuel duty on diesel money grabbing twat
if every one in the country parked their cars up and used no fuel and got a push bike you would find that the tax man would have aŁ3000 road fund licence on push bikes next lol

people need to stop worrying about the cost of juice.
if they dont get the money from juice, they'll get it from somewhere else.
i say they should double the income tax for Joe Dackys PMSL

Did no one watch that program the other day on tv it said we have 10 million legal immigrants and rising
only 700 thousand are at work and the rest are on benefits the main reason for the rising costs
