gaz,,,,, what does that mean, i can HEAR tappets from both banks now ( yes im gonna check the oil when it cools down !)
was on the left bank at first but wasnt worried,,,, now its on both so wanna look at shutting it up rather than wait for the 4k rebuild bill
the cambelt was done 4k ago before i bought the car,,, not worried about the price of doing a belt,,,, just if i can sort it without saves ALOT of hassle imo

well some cars are on hydraulic tappets, like cossies etc...
but some are adjustable tappets, such as old OHV rattler fiestas etc...
i remember my mate rebuilding his type-R scooby, and he hsd to strip it down as he didnt set the valve clearences properley which would make you think they are adjustable. in which cse you wouldent need to replace them jsut adjust em.

Most STI engines are solid lifters, the WRX motors are hydraulic, could be done in the car but to be honest it would be a complete pain in the arse i can drop a Subaru engine out in 1hr then its a doodle to do, be aware if they are solid lifters you adjust them using shims and its critical you don't get the exhaust side mixed with the inlet as i did the first time i done it !
