I got these a while back for my PC, for the money they're spot on.

 

i think tthats the same i got the other month
the sub properly kicks arse but you need to hide it away and make sure the speakers are at ear level or else they get a bit faint

 

The ones i posted will be fine then for a 2.1 setup.

Ive got the 5.1 versions, (x530) 5 speakers and slightly bigger sub than the 2.1 versions and this is great, LOADS of bass, even better when you have a decent soundcard

 

I like them, what is the difference between 5.1 compared to 6.1 or 7.1?

Ideally I'd like to plug the ipod into them and play direct, got usb to charge it

The number of speakers, 5.1 is 5 speakers and sub, 6.1 is 6 speakers and sub and so on

If your spending loads on them get a proper sound card aswell

The one ive posted ive got and it does a great job.

As for the speakers yes they are fantastic but i dont think he will like spending £200 on them? if you dont mind then go for it, they will blow you away

ive got a 30 quid sound card and 50 quid speakers, and my games sound fantastic, sound card really makes a difference with surround sound headphones on

edit: thats the card I have!

 

End of the day thats as good a card you can get until they bring out something better, only thing you miss with the xtreme audio is EAX in games which doesnt do hardly anything(ive used a card with EAX) no difference

 

Agreed, I have the Bose companions and they are awesome! CAn plug them in to TV, Playstation, DVD, IPod, brilliant for anything!
