I went in a standard one, was unimpressed with the power, but could tell the handling was awesome.

I'd certainly get one if I had the wonga, and get it remapped, bigger IC etc

The handling was fantastic for an FWD car. Wasn't that quick and felt even slower. Didn't excite at all. Felt well-screwed together, but had several problems with the ESP and the transmission in the early days, and for what it is, I think it's WAY too thirsty

Go for the Code:red 285 kit its the remap + exhaust + Induction kit for about Ł1,200 and that will give you 285 / 320+ lbs, and they are great cars to drive imo.

(also has a 1 year warranty on the parts if you engine goes wrong.)

Here is mine with the decals as well (Not everyones cuppa)

Love mine, got it remapped with a dreamscience, so its around 260-270bhp and really flys now.

It is a bit heavy on fuel, 24-26mpg, but I don't do a great mileage, so I don't care

They are really reliable, the 3 main remaps are Code:red, Dream Sceince, Bluefin

They are all pretty much the same. befits are...

-> DS - you have 5 lives to reuse it. (Can be a second hand bargin on ebay)
-> CR - Only one to have a warranty just in case.
-> BF - Good history and been around the longest.

The Fiesta is a better driving machine, it has a sensational chassis! Beats my previous favourite, the old DC2 Integra as the best handling FWD car ever for me

Just needs a bit more oomph! But the chassis can take it

I would of thought the Focus was the better driving machine, How come you say the Fieasta mate? The Focus is quicker and I assume it handles better?

Cheers, Benni.

fair enough. just running through my head a few of the options, there's the mazda 3 MPS which I think is the Duratec 2.3 motor with a turbo producing 256bhp. Saw one @ Power Eng but you can only get them in 5 door but they look pretty decent and not your average runaround box. Same sort of money I think maybe a bit cheaper for the mazda. Usual sort of BMW 3 series for that money but probably a bit boring compared to the ST.

You could get a Focus RS for the same money, maybe less and its still an RS and going to hold its value better than the ST will. Type R Civic, not a fan of those but again front wheel drive, hot hatch

The Focus is quicker and comes with more spec, but the Fiesta is a better handler. It's very rare that I truly like anything FWD, but the Fiesta ST is a gem. Spec it up to around the 200BHP and I'd say you've got a truly great little driving tool there

and while I've no experience of the ST185 version myself, when it was tested in EVO magazine a few months back, they said pretty much the same as I have, and that it should have came with even more grunt 'cos the chassis is just awesome

Fair enough, I wouldn't of thought the Fiesta handled better but I have not driven both so will have to take your word for it.

Well you have the Focus RS and ST and given the choice, I'd take the RS every time. There's always a mondy ST if you fancy something bigger either diesel if you dont want the mpg to hurt or the petrol model

For a daily driver, I'd choose the ST. The RS is far more "hardcore"

Appart from perfomance, the ST is a much better car than the RS. Much nicer interior and build quality and so on...

coming from a stg 3 escos, the std focus st is quicker in real terms, no lag, boost at 1500 rpm, and chuckable handling. the cossie had that cossie rush at 4K when it came on boost and if 'felt' quick , but you get the same rush as soon as you remap the st with a Ł400 haldheld bit of kit like the dreamscience , you dont even have to open the bonet, get on your knees or need any tools ffs!! plug in under the dash, press a couple of buttons as prompted on scrren and wait 5 mins, job done.

really pleased with mine had it just over a year now, the ONLY thing i'd say is a downside is the fuel consumptiopn, but it is a heavy car and is a 2.5L turbo, so what dya expect.

Having been in a few ST's I have to say I think they are a fantastic car, but you HAVE to have it in orange, and it HAS to have the leather seats option, and the self leveling xenons

That's what I had. I only like the look of them in Orange. It makes the car! Performance Blue is nice, but too subtle. Don't like any of the other colours at all
