What sort of logging is normally used for these runs? make/model? How exactly do they work? What do the mags use?
I cant help thinking that gps would be too slow to update, and light gates and suchlike only work in a fixed position, so standing mile or whatever?

PF Use a driftbox I believe, thats what went in Dave's car anyway.
I dont really know a lot about GPS testers, but from the reviews ive read, the driftboxes are nearly as accurate as the microsat at a fraction of the cost, in fact IIRC you can get one for the same price to buy, as it costs to hire that datron guy with his gear just for one day, so certainly ideal for the hobbyist, they do some quite cool stuff with laptimes etc that would probably be useful to you as well Ali

We use flashy Datron stuff too.
I have a Driftbox, and tested it against the Datron stuff, and it was accurate down to about 0.1 of a mph and a second compared to the Datron stuff at the speeds we tested, but that certainly wasnt mental speeds, or a really quick car, thats for sure. Think it was only up to about 100, and in an MR2, I cant remember now, and I did it![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Im not sure id trust it in extreme situations, ie new records etc, but thats purely because I have never, and have never seen, any proof that it is just as capable at that level.
It might be, it might not be, who knows.
For use on your own car though, its fantastic, no doubt there. Its shocking good for the cash.
Think a proper test of that stuff at Brunters in a properly quick car is on order.

I have some data here from the Driftbox that we took from Donington, when Gary crashed. It's the first time I have viewed it on the PC and was fascinated by exactly what it can do and how functional it is.
When I have time, I will make a separate post about it as I had planned to anyway.
We are able see look at a 'Yaw' graph on there and see exactly what happened to the car during the crash, including the pendulum motion as the back-end changed directions, including the ground speed that the car was doing at any one time.
