i think it is sad that some men wont even think about having a conversation with a woman about cars!!

i dont know why, perhaps they feel threatened that they may be shown up!!

I think its a shame you post such drivel tbh seeing as you are new here

People get shown up all the time. You cant know something you dont know about. Simple really isnt it. For instance, i know Redkop (Lynne) is a better driver than me, due to her vast track experience, doesnt mean i feel threatened or have to phone the samaritans

haha nice one!
i may not have the fastest of the cars out of my friends! they are pushing out 170bhp in their escorts, where as mine is 50!!
BUT what they do say is, im a 20year old lass with a 30year old car!!

that just dont happen!!!

not all blokes are knobs, and some do actually want to hold a conversation with you!
but ive had a few 1.2corsa's trying to catch me round the lanes near my house! one spun his car, and the others couldnt catch!!

One reply to me on another forum I use [not a car related one] cracked me up

You crash into our unfun family car with your 380bhp knob extension with dual overhead testes and If we're feeling friendly we'll scrape off your remains and post them home for you.
Well and truly pissed on his fire when I told him I don't have a knob or testes

To be fair the generalization that women know nothing about cars isn't entirely unfounded (Sorry girls, you can lynch me later) My husband is a ford Specialist and the amount of women that come to his work because "their car is making a funny noise in the engine somewhere" because they have run it without oil or water (or both!!) He's seen it all, and the ones that come "because it doesn't feel right" that'll be your flat tyre then love, its a bit mind boggling really so I can see where it comes from, I think basic maintenance should be a compulsory course, fair play to us that know a bit but to be frank there are more that know nothing at all, I once saw a woman who had to ask someone to put petrol in her car as she didn't know how to do it!! Its unfortunate but lots and lots of women are a bit clueless when it comes to anything with an engine.

totally agree with you!!
BUT when a woman does know something about cars, men quite often treat it with discust! for a perfect example read above!!!

i grew up with cars, tinkering from the day i could!
i was far more interested in making cars and stuff out of my lego and playing with my scaletric than i was my barbies!

However even my own dad, told me it wasnt advisable to choose a career in mechanics!

I just wish i could repeat some of things i have heard MEN say in Stu's line of work. Now that IS scarey and sometimes very funny Men get it wrong all the time, a little knowledge runs away with them, really it does!! At least the "stupid bint" women don't claim to know a jot about cars!!!!

I have no choice but to learn, as Stu even talks about cars in his sleep

Me too, I spent all my school holidays in the scrapyard with my dad but never wanted to make a career from it as its too cold in winter lol, I don't think i ever even had a barbie to be fair, I did have lots of Corgi toys tho, i don't think its disgust that we are met with, I think it is simply discomfort that gender roles are shifting. I'm a very girly girl that just happens to be into cars, I don't beat men round the head with it though, its a futile exercise and results in the comments that you have received. Men want to be manly, women shouldn't be, its that simple. Its great that women are learning how to do things that have always been left to the boys but we don't have anything to prove do we?

o god no not at all!
like you im a girly girl! spend half my life in 4" heels!
but like a good tinker with the car too!

i dont have to prove anything to anyone! it certainly isnt the 1st thing that i talk about! if it crops up then cool! but i have a larger vocabulary and a wider interest than dump valve or alternator!

its nice to talk to fellow minded women tho!
rather than receiving blank expressions when you talk about piston rings or your 3.9 diff!!

I know that feeling lol, most of my female friends don't understand the difference between the Focus and the Escos, other than the Focus is a diesel and the Escos is nicer looking lol.

I think women who know shit about cars are very attractive. Unless they look like like this chick.........

When they're not....

But anyways, quite an attractive prospect, having a girl you can have a decent conversation with who doesn't just think about X-Factor and Big Brother or what kind of shoes Cantelle was wearing on TV last night etc etc etc

Good on you!
