Default any diesel experts about

hello i was wondering if any one could help ? does any body no what would cause this the vehicle turns over but doesn't fire at all if you tow it or bump it it will start then for the next few hours it will start off the key then after a few hours it will just turn over then not fire like before. when it comes to diesel I'm clueless any help would be much appreciated the vehicle in question is an n reg transit

could be Air in the diesel system or the diesel pump itself could be faulty, any leaks around injector pipes, leak off pipes?

you didnt run out of diesel recently did you?

no never run out of diesel nothing has been changed or messed with one day it was fine the next day this happened no leaks that i can see. and like i say when you bump/tow it it runs fine and fires off the key but until you bump it it don't even attempt to fire its confusing

Sounds like heater plugs nackered,or low compression,is it a 2.5 di

its usually the glow plugs causing that. take one out and see if the end is all burnt and carbon'd up, if so, change them.

bump starting them regularly will lead to engine damage....

Check to see if your getting a feed to the glow plugs first

yes its a 2.5 and I'll go and check glow plugs and report back thanks everyone for your help so far

I've just discovered its the engine with out glow plugs if that helps at all

the N reg transit 2.5 TDI should have glow plugs somewhere?

from what i can gather 1995 was the change over time with the engines the new ones had glow plus and the old ones had a pre heat advance retard thing

ah right sorry cant help then mate. if you have a handbook see if there is a fuse for this pre-heater thingy.
