Its a club I belong to, the bloke who registered it seems to have gone AWOL, so just want to make sure if it comes up available that we get it rather than some cybersquatter thats all.

If it's a .uk domain Nominet will hold onto it for several months before releasing the registration.

.com domain names are held via internic, when they expire they go in to a redemption period i think its 30 days on a .com then after that it goes back on to genral sale.

he might have it on automatic renewal, alot of the reg hosts do that anyway, in which case you will struggle to get it! i think it takes a couple of months after the domain expires before it is released. at least that used to be the case. i got hold of a couple doing it that way.

If it auto renews thats cool anyway, I dont specifically want it, just dont want it going to a cybersquatter, so wanted to set up an automated buy for if this fella accidently lets it go so I got it not them, and hence it stayed in the club.

if you dont succeed set up a similar domain name and a new website and tell all your club members to sign up on the new one. its not passionford.com is it lol

LOL @ PF.com

All the literature has been printed with the URL, so not trivial to change.

Before you go with any of the said companies, do check out their 'small print.'

If it becomes an issue, try contacting the current registrar and explaining the situation - once it becomes de-registered (not expired) it's a crap shoot
